If I don't like the Yoko's I'll go straight back to the Dura Trac. Perfect tire for where I live and where I go. Rainy commutes, dry commutes, eastern oregon mountains, dirt, gravel, sand. However, when the passes are snow covered I put on my Blizzaks. I know the Dura Tracs are Snow rated but there is usaully a lot of sketchy icy patches before you get to packed snow and blizzaks stick like glue!

I’m on g003s for about 6k miles and haven’t had any issues in the rain/wet tbh. Somewhat subjective to your driving style but I’ve been a huge fan of them, especially considering their weight for a MT

LOVE my duratracs, I’m on my second set. Absolutely killer In the snow and great off-road. No complaints on road either.

Think I got ~70k miles out of my first set (265/75r16). My new set I got in November are 285s and I’ve been very happy with them as well. Also nice you can get C and D load range in 285/70r17s to save some weight and mpg. I only gained like 4 or 5 lbs per tire going up to 33s (Load range C on both my sets).

I think a lot of the bad reviews are from the crowd that expects a quiet luxury car ride from their lifted truck on aggressive tires. I haven’t experienced any balancing issues. I tore one sidewall on my first set but it was 100% my fault - I was pissed off flipping a uturn on a side street and slammed into a square curb at full lock but that’s what discount tire certificates are for. Never had any sidewall issues off-road regularly airing down to 15-20 psi.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but MTs are notoriously bad in the rain....pretty underwhelming in all things on road for that matter. Good luck.

Didn’t know where else to post this...

Looking for a shop or someone that can do the Viper cut on my 3rd gen. I want my rubbing to go away. If anyone is willing to help out I’ll compensate you with money, food, or beer. Whatever you want lol. I’m located in Hillsboro/Beaverton area but I’m willing to drive anywhere. Also, if you know a better place where I can post this, please let me know! Wanting to get it done this weekend if possible

    For anyone curious...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/viper-cutting-and-fenderwell-liner.671111/

I guess any 4x4 shop would do this... but it's typically a home solution and not something you pay people to do.

Yeah I thought about getting the tools and doing it myself but cutting into my 40k truck makes me feel some type of way lol. Looking for someone with experience. I already contacted a guy in Vancouver, WA that seems to do it out of his garage. Does a ton of stuff for people. Waiting to hear back from him. Thought I would see who else could help

I just cut my front bumper to install a winch bumper...don't be scared. Make your lines, cut conservatively and adjust as needed. Super easy.

A dremel tool with a plastic cut off disc works best. Also a pretty useful tool to have around the house.

Nice! Looks good. What did you use to cut it? Dremel? Where do you think I could get the plastic trim to put along where I cut?

Here's the edge trim... I recommend the kind with a metal core.

I picked up a milwaukee rotary tool to replace my harbor freight rotary tool but any dremel type tool will work great. Then I strongly suggest getting plastic trimming blades as @Bertw192 mentioned. I cleaned up the cuts/melted plastic with a angle grinder w/ flap disk but that isn't really needed.

    Rotary tool:

Last time I came on here asking for help on installing my Bilstein 5100’s. Y’all convinced me that’s easy enough to do on my own and save the money. I did it and I learned a lot. And I have tools I can use in the future again. It might happen with this mod too lol

I completely understand the M/T being bad in rain but Most of the guys in the Yokohama Geolander MT-G003 thread have commented on them being pretty good for an M/T. Not sure how to add the Thread link.

Just chop it yourself, honestly it'll probably turn out better than an offroad shop or some dude in his garage doing it real quick since you actually care about it. I'd just lay down some painters tape to draw on and mark it out with a sharpie and then go to town with a dremel and cutoff wheel. Shouldn't take long at all.

You'll probably be able to buy a nice dremel or rotary tool for alot less than a shop is going to charge you and then you have the tool for future projects.

The first cut on a new truck is the worst and then it gets easer. I remember being worried about drilling my frame for bolt on sliders many years ago but at this point I don't think twice cutting things off or welding on my frame hahaha :sawzall::welder:

EDIT: You'll also be surprised how easy the plastic is to cut on these trucks. I did all my fender trimming for 285s with a box cutter and scissors for the fender liner.

I'm not saying it is bad for an MT....I'm just saying that it will not be as good as an AT or AS on the road. No way to get around less rubber touching the road.

You just need to have realistic expectations and know that compromises are being made.

You start to care less and less about cutting plastic every time you hit a new dip/angle and you hear tire rubbing plastic...again and again
