A friend of mine had to cut his hood release cable and he cut away the outside shield and exposed the inside cable . He snapped a small pair of vice grips on it and he would lay on the ground and reach up in there and pull the grips to open the hood when needed .

I'm going to cut the grill out tomorrow and see if I can pop the hood. Really can't believe I'm locked out of my fucking truck. If that doesn't work I'll break the back side window to get in. $100-$300 lesson.

Ok, so I just went out to look at mine. With the hood up I tried to pull the hood cable up. It was a no go. The cable is really short and hard to grab - I could only get a single finger under it. The shroud makes it worse. And that's pulling from above. Through the grill like a contortionist will be pretty impossible.

Please try the locksmith first. You'll be cleaning up broken glass forever otherwise.

Hood release cable is only $25. But it's probably a bitch to install.

Do you have a pop-n-lock type tailgate lock? There is a disconnect by the tailgate that your could try using a 9v battery and jumpers with to unlock the doors.

I'd go on Facebook marketplace and offer someone the ability smash one of your side windows for the low price of $100. Aggression therapy.

Hopefully it works out. The only issue I can see with undoing the latch is the cable maybe to short. You can try yanking on it once the latch is off and if that doesn't work worse case cut it.

They're a pain the ass to rerun though. We had an old shitbox Tempo and the cable broke. So I just got a replacement and ziptied it to the radiator support instead of running it into the car.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
What about going in by the starter and backfeeding that way? Based on the how-to thread on changing it out, doesn't look like you need access to hood and other internals. Biggest worry is not losing at the game of Operation and shorting things out. Maybe use inline fuse so that blows and not your pcm.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-replace-third-gen-starter.661003/#post-24072626

Edit: for S&G, I checked if there's 12v between ground and the (+) terminal on starter and it is in fact hot at all times.

Oh and hopefully your + battery cable is not laying on a body ground in which case this is definitely not an option. Good luck @Grossomotto. The mobile locksmith may be the safest option.

Good info, thx. I'm going to call AAA and they'll pay a mobil locksmith, I'll see if they can get in.

I’m pretty sure the drivers window is the cheapest because it’s the most commonly broken one.

Probably too late but snag an inflatable wedge for windows from lowes and you can pump it up between the door jam. Should just put tension on the lock mechanism and you can slide a tool in and hit the unlock.

This so much. It's almost as thin as paper and you slide it between the door and frame and pump it up. Trust me, eventually that door will bend far enough to get something in there. It'll be two pumps past where you think you should stop.

Please do not go breaking and cutting shit on your truck over this, lol

Bingo. If you get a flat piece of steel say a yard stick it'll be super easy

Thx, I'm going to call AAA lockout service, they'll probably have this or a way to get in.

Absolutely they do. Probably use a different method just one more in the tool box

AAA lock service got in my truck in about 30 seconds with the inflatable wedge. He wanted to jump start it after, but didn't want him looking under the hood and see no battery! It all worked out.

Glag you all convinced me not to break a window. Word to the wise, don't take out your battery and manually lock your truck up.
