Well If I were to do it again..... Right now I have 17x9 with a -6 offset and for me its a little to close to the calipers about a finger tip and it rubs oh so slightly on the uca's at full lock. Thats with a 315 70 17 tire though.
If I were to do it again.... 17x9 with a -12 offset.

Im thinking that to fit the tire I want I will also have to with a negative offset rather than a zero.

8.5 or 9 doesn’t make a huge difference. In relation to back spacing and offset though it does as @Windigo has mentioned.

I’m running -38 offset with 3.5” of backspacing. All that is on a 9” wide rim. This is again for 315’s. I would recommend using a rim fitment calculator to make sure the poke and fitment is to your liking.

I just want to make sure I don't have to chop anything. I don't mind trimming a little plastic or removing the flaps but I want to avoid any major cutting.

Good advise, I have a set of rims sitting in the garage because I did not do my homework and they hit the calipers when bolted on. So yes do the homework, mind you I could of used them with spacers but the "poke" would be too much

285’s you are most likely going to to have to do a cab mount chop. All depends on your alignment as well. With a Max caster pushing the wheel forward, you can help it. Biggest thing is you want the tire off things you can’t cut off like the upper control arm or the spindle.

WE have a shop here in town that has done a zillion trucks, so they know the numbers as far as offset and tire size goes.
I'm also looking for wheel and tire suggestions...I'm a sucker for a five spoke...lol.

F5s end of discussion for the rims

tires anything you desire, there is no right answer. I run ATs that look more like hwy tire than off-road. Gets me everywhere.

    Are your trucks "making out"?
I'm kinda concerned about you two.

Obviously the trucks are making out. The real question is: where are they?
