vF Tuner for the 3.5L Tacoma

so i'm finally getting around to setting ECT as gearlock. do i just do this by setting ECT downshift maps to "0" ? but which part do i edit? i'm new in vftuner. do i edit under "ECT PWR DOWNSHIFTING SCHEDULE 1 to 2, 2 to 3 etc all the way up to 5 to 6. do i just change all the tables 0, 50, 85, 86, 100, 127.98 all to 0 and save?

 

I pulled up my last gear lock tune and here are the ECT maps. Just use thes numbers.

 

Nice. I did flash with the ect downshift maps all values 0 and it seems to be working perfect so far. What would be the difference with your values? I’m guessing it just allows it to downshift only at almost 0 pedal?

I downloaded the 1.2.7.8 today and the program says under help , about , that it is 1.2.7.7 . Anyone else have this ? I have not been keeping up with this so Thanks .

 

Same. Perhaps incrementing the version number was overlooked.

 

It was said that 1.2.7.8 should be shown and the Amazon is slow to propagate at times. I'm trying again now.

 

Is there an appreciable difference in near-0 vs "default" (for lack of a better term) settings? Does gear lock remove some protections implemented by the ECU, as in is it now incumbent on the driver to be aware of situations in which a given gear should or should not be? Example: locked into 6th while cruising but slowing down to wait at a light. The ECU should still downshift as speed slows with pedal near 0?

 

Hey guys, noob question here. I bought the tune back when it was OVTune 1.05 and I got an email a few months ago that there was a final update to 2.0. During the initial install, I had a tenuous grasp of what it was doing in the first place. Now I’m seeing it’s VF Tune and the version number is 1.2.7.7 (or 8).

I’m wondering if someone wouldn’t mind a breakdown of what the difference is and how I would go about flashing to the most recent iteration of the tune. On the 1.05 performance, I’ve noticed it seems to be a bit jerky when accelerating from < 5mph or so. I’m hoping the new tune would remedy that but I honestly don’t remember how to do this and I’m afraid to mess something up and “brick” my truck. I’d like to update one last time and leave it alone.

What engine ECU are you? You’re likely going to want to do the $79 upgrade (sorry).

<edit> Gonna edit this one 'cause apparently I don't know what the hell I'm talking about... It appears that you can still flash upcoming 2.X files with your existing flash tool... see @OVTune posts to follow.

 

Yes. That sounds right.
I just know that gear-lock in the past betas used the low values (not 0) in the ECT maps.

 

I don’t think anyone who just wants to update to 2.0 and has no desire to edit tunes should pay $79 for Vftuner.

 

I guess depending on what 2.X version he wants, that might make a difference? I recall recently Mat saying that changes were in the pipeline that would make it 'improper' to flash the latest tunes with the flash tool instead of VF? Correct me if I'm wrong so I can edit my posts.

But damn!, I’d be a pissed off customer (and there are still many), if the updated version isn’t available to them. (Pay $79 to update???)
Anyone who has a registered OVtune flash kit can flash .vft files. I know this is a fact. But for some reason everyone on here tells people to buy Vftuner.

 

Support it ...... or lose it ? ...... there are few guarantees in life.

Half the time customers get pissed off with us because they read comments on here that are totally bogus and makes them believe something that isn't reality.


99.9% of our customers are very happy with their purchase.

AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO. I've said this multiple times.

 

I gather this is because those options such as gearlock will be options you need to pick yourself in vFtuner over and above the 2,0 tune and that means you're editing a tune file and to do that you need to pay the upgrade fee.

to flash with vf anyone with original flash manager can do it. only dongle users can't out-of-the-box but it costs them -nothing- to be upgraded

I've literally explained this multiple times, and I don't fault you if you don't know, but I'm sure the very vocal and active members on here like PapaRee would know, because I have explained so many times I cannot even count, that when we release the new version you can use it without vF Tuner you just will only get to use the preset ones, you won't have the option to do as much customization as you want.


This is not directed at you. But at the "rhetorical" questions being posted by a member here which the only purpose is to cause doubt and make people think they have to pay more, which has never been the case and he knows it.

 

has anyone been able to download the 1.2.7.8? the link on ov's site gives me 1.2.7.7. i am STILL trying to get vf tune to work. so many steps, so, hard to know if you are doing it right. i am basically beyond the point of identifying the ecu, cal etc... sent that info to zendesk.

i have 5 credits, i can see that. i guess i am waiting for vf to send me the ecu info, so i can select 04b33, to start the flashing, of the base tune, or updating/tuning from that tune, to flash?

i really appreciate you superusers helping us. this is frustrating for us but, i cant imagine it for you guys. hopefully i can learn more, and help others too but, right now, i am ready to have someone call me and talk via phone, to get me through this. willing to pay Ski
