If anyone is interested, I took mine in today... It was fuel pump which I knew since it was acting like it was running out of gas. It bucked and sputtered the whole way there... It's a fairly large dealer in North Alabama and the main service writer said mine was 3rd one he's dealt with that had the drivability actually affected. What I was told, when drivability is affected the part request status gets uprated to a higher status. However, they don't start making the pump until they get the request. He said the other 2 have taken 5 and 7 weeks each to get the pump in and replaced. I could of gotten a vehicle today but not a truck which I need for work. So Monday they are bringing me a loaner truck to use until I get mine back. It's a bummer for sure but they handled it perfectly as far as I'm concerned. It's obviously out of their hands but their part has been handled exemplary so far. We'll see about the rest...

I started to keep it through the holidays to sound deaden and start the audio install as was suggested. After sleeping on it, I just wanted to get it there so the ball was rolling... Here's to hoping everyone else gets their replaced without having the drivability affected!

    Happy and safe holidays!

They lie. Parts are already made and available. You can buy them online using the part numbers on peoples invoices. I get they might have to order it in but they are not being made to order.

Actually I lied to you! What he actually said was he thought maybe they were making them to order since they were taking so long to get them... I forgot to ask the head guy so this is what the newbie seeming kid said when I walked back in to ask fwiw. Sorry for the confusion!

Edit: anyone have the part number handy before I dig back through this long thread?

I had mine swapped when the installed my supercharger. They, Kendall Toyota, said they keep a few on hand for the swap requests and warranty notices. They said they could do mine because they were already doing work on the truck which moved me up in the que. Right or wrong it was done and done. Super easy and no push back.

I did, however, get push back when the notice first came out. I don’t think the dealers were quite ready with the recall piggy backing onto the pandemic.

Not with that attitude it won't... I'll give it a shot, you miss 100% of the shot's you don't take. ;)

Ditto. Part numbers would be helpful, if they're cheap enough I may just order everything.

Side question, anyone considered just going with an aftermarket upgraded fuel pump?

Had my recall service done yesterday. Received the notice about three weeks ago to schedule it. Called the dealership, and it took them about a week to get the part in, then I had to make the appointment for the actual install two weeks out. Recall service completed yesterday with no problems.

My 2018 ‘Taco has been running a bit tough. I had called the dealer back on Nov 24th 2020 to schedule it for the recall R&R. This morning on the way to work it sputtered and ran very rough, then the check engine light came on and it died. Right in the middle of the road.

I was able to get it restarted and it ran fine all of the rest of the way to work. I don’t trust it though. Called the dealer and my parts came in last Friday, have an appointment now for this Thursday to bring it in. I hope that it continues to run until I can get it to the dealer.

Forgot to update this since I spoke with someone at Toyota Corporate USA. He said they hoped to have the next run of pumps by the end of January. If not it will be sometime in March... No definitive date, actually anything but!

That's just unacceptable to me but I'm really not sure what I'm going to do yet. I absolutely love my truck but this is absurd!

Hope this is not a dumb question; I just bought my 2019 Tacoma (via Carvana) and knew up front about the fuel pump recall. But being that this was a used car purchase, will I get officially notified by Toyota? Or do I just have to call my local dealer and inquire about when I can get in line to get my pump replaced?

I bought mine used and eventually got a notice in the mail but it was weeks after it showed up on the list on the recall page.

Call your local dealer service center and talk to a service representative. Explain your ownership. Most decent dealers will accommodate, in strategy of getting your business or maybe being a good service provider overall. The representative will get your VIN and verify the recall is applicable. The service center may have to order the part, but get an ETA and call back to see if they have the part, then schedule a service.

My service replacement took about 2 hours total. They also updated my ECU while I was there, no hassles. The service center was glad to reel me in.

I doubt seriously ToyotER will call or write unless of course you got a Christmas card from them last week.

    /C

My truck is at the point where is is not very drivable. Stalls often. I called the service department again and informed them of this. I asked for them to tow it in, but they said my "Toyota Care" has expired and it was on me to get it to them.

Asked to speak with the service manager and she called me back. I explained the situation to her and she authorized the tow on their dime. Calling the towing company tomorrow so they can come by my home and pick it up and take it to them. Kudo's to her for authorizing the tow. That should of been a no brainer anyway.

I was only able to get the tank slightly under half, can't really drive it so can't get it to a quarter tank like they asked. I'll leave a note in the cab for the mechanic; explaining that to them. They are scheduled to fix it this Thursday.

Picked up my truck Thursday from the service department. Prior to them pulling the tank and R&R'ing the fuel pump inside of it; they tried to reproduce the behavior. It only stumbled once for them. They said it didn't register any codes either. But the recall is done and my truck is cured of this malady. They also gave me a full tank of gas. That was very nice of them. Service department said that this was the first Tacoma they seen that actually had the symptoms of the failing fuel pump btw...

Anyone have this issue with a 2017 model? Has anyone got a recall notice on a 2017? Thanks

Yes. I have a 2017 and got the first recall notice about a month ago. Still haven't gotten the second "remedy" notice.
