A friend showed me his 2011 double cab yesterday. I showed him my hose clamps and Pop & Lock locking handle. He asked me why and I had his tailgate off in 20 seconds. His jaw dropped.

Nice I am definitely going to do this. I had my bed extender stolen so I'll need to figure something out for that

Your local hardwear store should have various anti theft bolts. Take an OEM bolt out, and have it matched with the correct size anti theft bolt, and your golden. Imigaes of said bolts:

I cannot for the life of me get the key out of the clamp! I have tried using hands, gloves, and needlenose pliers. Is there a trick to getting the key out, if so, what is it?!

I got mine at Auto Zone for $3; a card of 2 and they claim to be removable contrary to my luck.

Use pliers, and bend the key a little. It should pop right off.

After a LOT of force exertion, I got it off! Needless to say, I at least accomplished something today!

I put a lot of marks on both my keys because of the amount of force my junky needlenose pliers required.

FYI to anyone who is like me: The key may be 100% plastic so don't think you broke it when you see a metal receiver on the other end. It's probably supposed to be like that :p

Okay, I understand how to create a "lock" for my tailgate so someone doesn't steal it. But....can someone tell me what can be done about installing a lock to my tailgate handle. I have the camera built in on my '10 Taco, so I can't just buy a new handle. I didn't quite understand the post above this to add a lock. Please advise!

i've just read quite a few of the pages in this thread. is it just me, or do the same responses appear over and over again?

#1. great idea (which it is)

    #2. i got mine at _____ and paid _____ .

#3. couldn't get it to fit.

    #4. fit perfectly first time

#5. i put one on both sides

#6. you don't need one on the driver's side

et cetera et cetera et cetera

don't people read a thread before responding to it, or just the original post and assume they are contributing something unique?

    arghhh!

Just installed the hose clamps to my Taco, what a great cheap idea that will at least take someone a little longer to steal your tailgate. I also just installed a Pop n Lock handle that I got on autoanything.com. If for some reason if I forget to lock my tailgate now, I have the hose clamps as a back up. Thank you everyone for your ideas! I still can't get over why Toyota would put all this money in to designing and building a nice truck and leave out a $10-20 option of being able to lock a tailgate. Anyone know why they skimped out on this?

    Thank YOU.

Have been shopping around & looking @ the many different ways of addressing this issue & found a few w/ the ($) to match. Now imagine that; a common sense & practical fix.
    Thanks Again.
