    2020 TRD Pro 12k miles.

Swapped vehicle locations and moved the coma to the driveway. Turned the coma off.
Went inside, 20 minutes later used the remote start to heat it up (cold here).

Let it idle for 10~13 minutes approached and usually it shuts off when you grab the door handle, it did not shut off. Got inside and could not put it in gear (automatic).

Pushed the start button and it stopped. Tried to start and got all warning lights and low battery screen. Tried several times, no love.

Pissed off I got in the other car and did errands.
Came home an hour or so later, got in and started like normal, no warning lights or low battery screen.

I think the coma had a "coma" moment.
    Anyone experienced this before?

Maybe @N2DesignsInc has some insider info. That sounds weird.

    I'm curious.
Does the truck typically shut off when the doors are unlocked or when the door is opened after remote starting?
If when the door is opened, could the switch have been stuck in the "door closed" position because of the cold temperature?
    If when unlocking, no clue...

Good idea. It's when the door is opened. Could be a frozen plunger.

That may be it. On cold days I’ve opened and closed my drivers door again so it’ll start.

Well I just tested it on my 2020, it shuts off when unlocking. So my theory may be incorrect.

usually remote start only runs for about 5 minutes...it's not something you can drive away in if you don't put the key in the ignition or have fob in pocket if you have push to start. then you actually have to push to start...unless there is an issue with your anti-theft chip or your phone (same pocket or something) blocking it

This has happened to my 19 twice (with n2) from the few hundred times I've remote started it. Both times I got out, locked and unlocked the doors a few times and a min later it started like normal. I chalked it up to a glitch since it's so infrequent.

I'm never expecting it so don't pay attention but both times I think I hit the 15 minute time limit and for some reason it didn't turn itself off. Not sure if that factored into it or a coincidence.

    Where'd you buy this?

Elaborate? You were sitting inside the car? Are you using a smart module? We don't like anomalies. Perfection or nothing is how we roll...let me know.

I do have the cell module. I originally ordered from you without it. Found the range to be terrible so I later ordered the cell module. However I got that off of Amazon.

The first time it happened was a while ago and I may not have even had the cell module yet. Second time I know for sure I had cell module and started it from my iwatch.

Both times I walked up to the car unlocked it via the handle like normal. But when I opened the door it didn’t die. When I stepped on the brake it did though. Both occasions it wouldn’t restart after that and acted like the key wasn’t in the car (I have push to start).

I got out of the car and cycled the locks a few times and waited a minute and car started like normal. Second time I know for sure I hit the 15 minute cap as I was walking up to the car. As I walked up to the car the fog lights turned off which are usually on when I remote start. But the engine didn’t it, it continued to run. Right after that the above happened.

only odd thing I can really think of as I watch the time left on my cell or watch for the remote start it bounces between 15 and 30 mins. Usually settles on 15 but will bounce around on the same start. Don’t have any other details I can think of. It’s so infrequent and I have no idea when it’s going to happen.

just test started it with the fob and it turned off at 15 mins like normal. But it did still bounce between 15&30 min countdown on my watch.

At the start of a smart phone or app initiation of a remote start, there is a glitch that "starts" the count down timer at 30 minutes but after a few seconds adjusts correctly to 15 on down. Doesn't bounce back. Now, the reason I asked is because if you press the engine start icon in the app more than once, it queues up another 15 minutes run time without any sort of notifications...so always be patient on commands to succeed or fail before pressing again. They don't disappear if within a certain time window, they get queued up in the satellites for a few minutes before flooding down (if they don't fail and confirmation respectively).

The exact thing has happened to me twice. Normally the truck shuts off when I open the door, but the last two times I've used remote start it didn't shut off until I got in and pressed on the brake. The engine shut off, but I couldn't get it to start again. The display indicated is was a charging problem and the word "Ignition" was also displayed. The START button did not light up. I locked the truck with the remote, unlocked it and tried again...no start. I ended up disconnecting the battery, waiting a minute and then reconnected the battery. Truck started like normal using the START button. I have plans on taking it to the dealer to and show them, but haven't gotten around to it. Ooh and the temperature was in the 50's so nothing was frozen.

2020 LIMITED. I had the same thing happen to me. The connected services free trial ended Jan 2, and the FOB remote start was not working the next day. About a month later I discovered that it was working again, Then one morning I remote started it with the FOB and then tried to stop it with the FOB but it remained running, opening the door didn't stop it. Only when I pressed the start button did it shut down, and then it would not restart. The dash display was different but I don't remember what it was (panic mode set in). After disconnecting the battery for a minute everything went back to normal. I've been trying to recreate this to get pictures of the dash or whatever else with no luck.
I asked the service manager at my dealership about this and he had never heard of it happening and couldn't find any TSBs about it.
This looks like a software bug that Toyota doesn't know about or has not announced it if they do.

It has happened to me a few more times, but the time I took it to the dealer it worked just fine. They couldn't explain how I had remote start since I didn't have connected services/remote connect. I was going to video the next time I did it so I'd have something to show, but the last time I tried using the FOB the remote start didn't work after multiple attempts. I've kind of given up on the remote start. If I ever decide I want it, I'm heading to the aftermarket world for something like N2Designs offers. I agree, something is wrong but it looks like only a few of us have experienced the issue so I don't expect Toyota to do anything about it.

Happened to me again this morning. I put my foot on the brake and tried to start it. It went through the cycle (dash lights and little hissing noises) but no start. With my foot off the brake there was no response. I sense a recall.

This happened to me the other day
    2021 sport
Remote started for 10 min, went to open door, truck didnt turn off. Weird. Went to put it in gear, shut off and said check charging system. Put it back in park, tried to turn on - check charging system. Blowers and heaters were on full and could not turn off, had to turn off and jump the battery from my other vehicle.
This morning the truck barely started - sat for a day, wonder if its a battery issue? Taking in to dealer - cant have a brand new truck not start when i need it to.
    Will keep you all posted

This happened to me 3x now.
This time I took the key out of the fob, locked my doors and used the physical key to unlock the truck. After that I could start the vehicle again.
This information was given to me after calling the dealer in frustration. They claim this resets the system.
Hasn't happened since and I have been using it in extremely cold weather lately.

This exact thing has happened to me twice as well. OEM remote start, using fob. Other times it has worked fine. Super annoying, and I can't identify anything that I've done differently those times. Had to disconnect battery both times, then it started fine. Other behaviors are exactly the same as others have noted.

I've essentially stopped using it because I don't want to deal with the hassle.

It happened to me on my '20. It started on the 3rd attempt and smelled like an old car that flooded. I also stopped using the remote start.
