Has anybody done this? Getting my Red TRD Sport next month and in going to black accent it. I am fine with the shape/style of the factory flare, I just want to paint them black. Will they go back on clean? If I have to spend a ton of time cleaning up the backs of them, I’ll just order some blacks and attach them

You should be fine and they will go back on fine if the clips stay in good shape.

There is a whole thread of people swapping fender flares and or adding new aftermarkets ones.

Thanks. I have no issues installing any of the available new sets out there. I just do not want any surprises after I take the factory units off. I am ok with the profile of the factory flares. I have see install videos of guys putting the big rivet style on. No really a fan of those. It’s all about the colour change to black more than anything

Grab some extra blue clips (I think it’s the third one up?) people tend to break those. The rest came off cleanly

You can always plastidip them black, while they are on the truck so you don't risk worrying about breaking any clips. Added bonus of taking it off if you get tired of the look. I plastdipped my oem grill and it held up 3 years without any chipping or peeling before I got a custom car grills one.

Don't break any clips, and use new, fresh tape.

You can get a box of new clips for $15 on Amazon. When I pulled mine I replaced them all of your worried about breaking any.
