Hi everyone, I've been a lurker on tacoma world for like 4 years now and am just now getting to the point where I can do some mods on my truck. I have a super white 2017 SR5, 3.5L, 4wd.
I have a lot of questions but I think to start ill keep it simple.
Something I've been looking into is swapping out the grille, since my truck is just the sr5, I've got the Toyota logo and the plain Jane grille that goes with it. What I want to know is if I can order the trd pro grille from Toyota parts and swap them out? They parts look the same but the grille is just different. As you can see in the pics, the top is the trd pro labeled #1, this is the grille i want. I have the grille in the lower pic. So does anyone know what I would need to order? Just the #1 from the top pic? I'm assuming the grille in the lower pic doesn't have a label because its just a stock grille? Anyways this is just one of my simple questions. I have a lot of questions about bumpers and armor and things of that nature, so maybe you all can help me out. Looking to beef up my tacoma and have it looking as sick as some of your guys!

No, Toyota will not sell you that grill unless your truck is a TRD model verified by VIN

You may want to add the grill in the title. I think ‘need help’ is reserved for someone that’s broken down

and agree I don’t know how they would know if you’re buying it off a website. I imagine they’d want to make a sale

Most will ask for your vin when you go to order it, even online. If you don’t give it they’ll email and ask. Most after market stores, like @FreshMexicanTaco store sells them cheaper than you’d get from a dealer. Plus you’d be supporting TW members as well.

Word! Thats more reasonable. Ok so with those raptor lights can those be installed on any trim level? Or do I need a specific wiring harness or something? I've seen installation videos but usually only on the off road or pro models, so I'm wondering if like the SR5 is equipped with those extra things?

For example, my side view mirror got smashed. So I replaced it thru Toyota parts center, but what I was thinking was can I replace BOTH side view with like ones with blind spot monitoring and blinkers, etc...? Is that sort of thing even possible with the existing wiring?

Does toyota have sort of standard "guts" they put in a tacoma then they just say "ok this one is an sr5 with this stuff, plug and play, ok this one over here is a TRD pro it gets this stuff here" but they started from the same basic guts? I'm sorry if thats a hard question to understand but im just wondering whats possible to upgrade from my standard SR5.

Raptor lights can be added to any trim level.

I'm sure not all my questions belong in this thread, but I've searched and can't really find the answers. Is there a place on TW I can find all of the people who make parts and stuff for tacos? Body armor and lights and all the goodies?

Go to the home page of the site and to the left there are a bunch of official vendors with links to other websites where you'll be able to find all sorts of mods and upgrades. Make sure to browse all of the forums as well for ideas.

As far as the grille goes, the one from taco garage is great. I have the same one and its literally the same as the $400 OEM one. Raptor lights are easy to install and could be wired a multitude of ways. I have mine spliced into the headlights.

I tried to order online and I got an email back asking for a vin. You can find a vin from any other pro and it MIGHT work. It worked for me. I also tried a local dealer and they didn’t ask for a vin because they know me but I think they had to provide one still. They just didn’t ask me for it they got it from their sold trucks.

That being said, our pro grille is cheaper and it’s actually better in some regards, for example, the lettering is replaceable and we have pretty much every Tacoma color available for those letters. On the OEM pro you cannot customize the lettering. It is permanently glued on.
