    Gentlemen or Gentlewomen,

I got an offer, not yet build, 2021 OR 4x4, just base enough I can afford and willing to spend.

    Base Model 37380.00
    Total Packages Installed 2216.00
    Delivery / Handling 1175
    Total 40771.00
    SoCal Market Standard

I don't want to insult anyone, how much should I offer? I am not sure it is reciprocated, but I guess that's how the cookies crumble.

We are close enough in term of market. Can you list your features for that price?

You could be waiting a while for a vehicle that has yet to be built.

...^^^... Let the dealer make the first "solid offer" (then counter) ... you don't want to give your prices first and be negotiating against yourself.

Don't worry about "insulting" a dealer when negotiating your truck.

Deal done. Had to go 6 states away.

    OLD:

    • My 2018 SR Utility lease - sold it today, with 40,000 miles. Got $2,500 more than lease buy out on it.

    NEW:
    • 2021 Tacoma Cement, SR5 V6, Double Cab, 4x4, Long Bed, Red interior accent.
    • MSRP $37,997 ($35,805 vehicle + $1017 in options all weather floor liner/door sill + bed mat + predator steps). - Didn't really want the predator steps, but oh well.
    • $34,400 selling price. + TTL that I will pay in my home state (Contacted 63 dealers in the USA. Had deals almost in Nor Cal, but we were too far apart at end, and most didnt have color I wanted)
    • $3,597 total discount.
    Very happy with the deal.

Amazing price, no brainer, just that I think I am OK with SB. I too am not crazy about predator steps, prefer the tubal one, but most likely might just live with it.

I’m certainly no master at negotiating for Tacoma’s, but I’d try to get 10%-12% off msrp.

Yea, start off with an offer at 13% off MSRP and be willing to accept somewhere in the 8-10% off range. But you have to understand that they’re not just going to just give it to you. Like farmTacoma said a couple posts back. She got 10% off but that was by calling 63 dealers. When I just bought my wife’s Honda accord, I live in Charleston, SC. I spoke to every dealer between here and Charlotte and then as far south as northern Florida. I don’t know how many that was but it’s a shit load. A lot of them are going to laugh at you and say no way anyone’s going to do that but if you call enough, someone will.

Your posts helped the negotiation, I appreciate it. I looked at most dealers from here to South Carolina - that had a good inventory. The TX dealers that were recommended here via PM, wouldn't sell me a truck without a TX address. Basically they wanted me to buy as TX resident, register there, and register back in CA. They didn't want to do the paperwork.

Most dealers told me MSRP or MSRP - $1000 was their best deal. I got two dealers at the end (Nor Cal) vs Kansas and had them fight it out at the end. Freeman was great price on the truck I wanted - but only red, and wouldn't take orders or tell me allocation. I was tempted to get a Cement OR DCLB 4x4 they had, but on that it was $1,000 off MSRP only. Personally I don't need the OR for my needs. My truck will see fire roads, sand dunes, and 80% being loaded with fruits and dates at my farm. Its used as a truck. Livign with a SR for 3 years, I just needed SR5, long bed, double cab. Prior to my lease 2018, I had a 2000 tacoma and t100 I kept for ever.

Once I got the two dealers down to what I thought they wouldn't go anymore, I sent the written quote to some closer dealer that had the truck, and NOBODY would budge. They wouldn't match price. Said to go pound sand and buy elsewhere that the price was low.

Also due to me wanting only 1 truck - SR5 Cement, DCLB 4x4, with almost no options - limited what I could buy. There was 11 trucks in the entire USA for what I wanted. Out of that 5 trucks that were lowly optioned (no nav and all that junk that I don't want).

Additonally, due to So Cal not letting me have a DCLB 4x4 in non sport or non OR, made it extra difficult. Toyota locks out 7570 model in my region.

If I was ok with DCSB, or non 4x4, then it would be easy peasy to get a truck, and I could have more leverage to negotiate.

It also came down that I went and looked at Tundra for 35K new. I just didn't want to deal with mileage. I also don't want the TT New tundra coming, as I want a non turbo truck.

I am sure GEN 4 tacoma will be amazing etc, but I need a truck in the next 2 months, as our growing season ended, and planting season will be starting.

Of course being on this forum, I already spent $200 last night on Amazon (black decals and bed lighting):spending:

I am happy the deal is done. Now I need to sit around and wait for it. If it wasn't covid, I would do a fly and drive.

Can you share dealer details? I’m looking to buy a Tacoma in the next week or so and need the best deal possible.

I was told dealer fee was non negotiable and I didn’t argue. They threw in floor mats that they were going to charge me $300 for though. The only prep I did was getting offers from car gurus. When they came in with an offer of around $500 off msrp (34k), I told them I’ll just go across the bridge cuz they gave me an offer of 30,300.... she said “we will beat it”... they did, by $50 ... I probably could’ve told them I had an offer of 28,300 ‍♂️. They never asked to see the offer, which I did have....

Its a $25 part that the dealer spends 10 minutes installing to make your brake lights flash when you brake. They consider it to be safer because it grabs the attention of a distracted drives behind you. In most cases it just annoys the focused driver behind you. This dealer charges $399, however, after complaining about it over and over again, the most they would go down to is $350.
