Upbadging your Tacoma

There was an SR5 for sale near me that had a TRD off road sticker on it and was being listed and sold as an OR. That’s misleading and wrong in my opinion. Hopefully the buyer knew what they were getting

 

Poseurs come in all flavors.

Half the folks driving around with big tires and lifts are poseurs too. Just another kind.

 

If you really want to stir the ant mound, add "four wheel drive" to that list.

 

That’s an issue. Now just running around with those stickers but not using them to sell it as something it’s not? That’s all fine and dandy

 

The SR5 Off Road and TSS Off Road badges are distributor tart ups that help sell the trucks.

 

my co-worker has a TRD Off-Road Premium 4Runner and he converted it into a TRD Pro (emblems, wheels, tires, suspension (added spacers), grille, black hood scoop, skid plate, etc.) It's Classic Silver Metallic and it looks pretty good ngl

No: Life is hard enough for most of us lol...Do what makes you happy if it isn't hurting yourself or others. Even if it means adding a TRD sticker to a SR5. I'd never do it but that's just me. I'd also never lift my truck but I don't think others that do are posers. They just have different things that make them happy which I totally support. BUT...
Yes: if someone adds badges etc to misrepresent property while entering into a legal contractual arangement, that is very wrong, devious and likely illegal so my poll answer is "No...but...." Lol.

Failing to see the upbadging here. I do see a teenaged hoon that has an oversized gift card to pep boys. I'm still looking for the American word to fit precisely this phenomenon - the Brits call it a Yobbo while the Aussies (kinda) call it a Bogan - and I wish I knew what our equivalent word is. But it's that.

PS. My interior is Yobbo'd up far worse than yours. But I don't think we're talking about that. We're talking about posers.

 

There was a Chrysler 300c with a Bentley grill at my old work that I thought was pretty awesome. This isn't the one I saw, but same grill.

I think over the past 4 years, the term "fake" has been overused to the point it now lacks any meaning.

Everything is now "fake". And the accurate definition of the majority of the uses is "something I don't like".

 

My 2 cents is if you put in the work and resources to change the truck, call it what you want. Mine started as a TRD Offroad. However, with everything it has now I’d definitely say it’s far superior to a TRD Pro, minus a few bells and whistles.

I’m a fan of the Rebadging/Rebranding to something different anyway.

I wouldn't say he 'converted it' to a TRD PRO as much as It's more of a PRO look-alike.

The PRO has Fox 2.5 resi shocks.

I don't really care personally, but the shocks are pretty much the only real upgrade that the PRO gets. So, a spacer lift on an ORP isn't really doing the PRO justice.

 

It’s the oem pro shocks with a spacer to level it out I think. I don’t exactly remember what he said lol
