    Looks like it was working fine, I was just in lower coverge areas and my beacons weren't showing on aprs.fi as much as around cities. The Ftm-400xdr has a setting for APRS mute, without it muted(and without a tone set) you hear all the screaching packets.

    @k8md
    Radio silence the whole trip except for the occasional packet screach even with Tone100 set as pictured above. I switched to VFO with Tone100 set on the aprs freq and heard the same.

    Packets are being received and sent. I was able to listen to a repeater here in Memphis though I was too far away for them to clearly hear my check-in on their net.

    OK, I understand, like an alarm/notification. I guess I was thinking there would be some kind of voice alert :rofl:

    What route are you taking? If you are coming across Kansas on I70, you could get me on a repeater. Depending on when you are coming through of course.

    I'm heading out on I-40 although I might head up to Denver to come back on I-70 next weekend. I've got a couple of the K linked repeaters programmed in so I might try to reach out when I. 'm coming back

    I usually scan those K-Link repeaters and the Salina KS repeaters. I'll try and keep a radio on me next weekend.

    Just because I did not want to buy a bunch of extension cables. The mic plugs directly into the main unit and I just didn't want a bunch of long cables all over the place. The new unit sits great were it is, sounds great on the other end, APRS is up and running, I couldn't be happier with it. Well... maybe touch screen lol.

    I totally would have!! I just bought that FTm300 tho and I need Maxtrax, potable toilet, a warmer sleeping bag, and gasoline for my trip next month. Can't swing the purchase right now. That would make an amazing base station tho! I will trade you for my Icom 2730?? lol

    BTW everyone.... I did start a TALK GROUP on the new TGIF Prime Network. This new network is amazing with loads of features! It is just coming out of the beta testing stage right now and for the most part all is well.
    The talk group is called Toyota Overland and the TG number is 1521. I usually access this group with a hotspot at home and cross mode with Fusion to DMR. I would like to get more traffic through there and maybe start a weekly net focusing on 4x4, offroad, overlanding, and TOYOTAS. Since we all own Toyotas and like to play radio maybe some of you could check it out??

    I'm looking at either another TM-V71A or a 710G. I just don't love the Yaesu.

    Yesterday, I picked up 3 antennas from a fellow local ham. It was a take one, you have to take all deal. The one I wanted is a 4 element 6m beam. It’s a Hy-gain. Some of the elements need minor straightening as all of the antennas were stored assembled under a deck. I have to figure out an SO mount as it was designed to mount the coax with terminal lugs.
    The next is a 440 Cushcraft. It also needs some love...
    The last is an A3 vertical. At the very least, I have aluminum tube. If someone needed the 440 or HF and was in the area, they are welcome to it.

    What is your take on the 5100a? Looks pricey, but holy crap it has all the buzzers and bells.
