It got pretty quite up there at times.

ya had car doors freeze open, one car wouldn’t start till noon some days (few hours of direct sun), flurries all week for a foot of snow, nothing around dam I miss that place.

When we went and it was that cold. I walked outside of the Hotel to start my sled, took a breath or two and I had to go back inside to put my helmet on because the hairs inside my nose felt like they froze up immediately! That hurts so bad!

My friends LX450 was the only truck to start that morning. We had to jump everyone else's.

What's the snow situation look like up there? Pretty bleak? I have 3 trips to Aroostook county this winter planned but the lack of snow keeps making me nervous.

Got some miles in Pittsburg this weekend, trails opened but they were marginal. 135 miles on Saturday, Sunday was spent ice fishing instead.

I have an Escape for probably two days. I told the dealer my simple camera issue (with a TSB and detailed service procedure that they keep ignoring) is becoming a saga and I wanted assurances that trip #5 was going to solve it along with my somewhat noisy ventilated seat. The service manager told me he wanted to keep the truck this time until it was sorted out and gave me a loaner.

I got into it thinking it isn't bad for the $24k or so it probably costs. I looked it up and sticker is actually $30,495. There's no way that would be my choice for $30k.

Depends, but a few things other may wanna know, I take it this will be for concealed carry or just a range gun? You'll have to see if you like a double stack or a single in your hand better, I can't stand the feeling of a single stack so my handguns are double stacks. Are you thinking of a specific caliber you'd like to carry? Also, ammo is crazy price wise right now and hard to find

for home/travel/camping/fun shooting. I have always figured at some point nIf get one, well I am doing it now before it gets too difficult.

probably go with 9 mm, I think I will prefer the double, I’m a bigger guy.

Best bet is to go to a gun shop that has a range and shoot a bunch of different guns. First and foremost see what feels comfortable in your hand for whatever intended purpose is (CC, general shennaigans, etc..). I have little bitch hands and prefer a single stack personally. But it's all preference. Shoot a bunch of different stuff, and try to see what you like better in regards to trigger (Double action, single action, DA/SA, etc..) and what generally feels good in your hands. If it doesn't feel good, you're not going to be proficient with it imo.

I’ve shot a lot of hand guns back in the early 90s, not much in recent years.

I have a few thoughts and will be hitting up a couple stores the next days or two to hold some.

Lots of questions come to mind and you answered some of them above. I'd decide on revolver vs. pistol first, then a caliber, personally I like .45ACP, more of a push than a snap and because .45, why not? If you're going with the larger caliber like I did, I went with a pistol so the action absorbs some of the shock, revolvers put it all back into your wrist. For a revolver, I'd look at .357 because most will also shoot .38 which is cheaper but still gives you the option to shoot .357 magnum if you ever get the need. If just for plinking, .22lr is hard to beat and was the first pistol I purchased. If you're thinking you're going to conceal it, I'd look at the firearm and the holster together to make sure you have a good match. I'm not an overly big guy so my conceal carry is something relatively small framed, single stack, still .45 though for consistency. If concealment is a priority, you may be willing to sacrifice ergonomics or capacity for something you can tuck away. I agree with what was said above, try to find a range or some friends to shoot with that will let you try out a few things and see what you like. Otherwise, stick with the known brands and you can't really go wrong. So far, my favorite handgun is the 1911. Large framed so not easily concealed, but fun to shoot.
We just traded my wife's Escape in. We picked hers up for just over $20k at the time, brandy new. It was the SE model so fairly basic. The dealership gave me a Titanium package Escape with a sticker well into the $30k's, makes me wonder who buys those things.
