Heavy Duty Suspension?

I was wondering does anyone makes a heavy duty suspension that doesn’t add lift? I’m happy with the stock height and not looking to lift I just want to be able to haul a little bit more.

 

You’ll want airbags rather than different springs.

 

2.5 shocks (Heavy Duty) from ADS, FOX, Kings, OME, and Bilstein are offered from 0-3 inch. They are adjustable so if you get sag you can raise as needed. As for the rear suspension you can add 1 leaf (that will raise the rear about 1") Sumo spring (Block of rubber to prevent rear sag when loaded) or as mentioned air bags.

 

The shocks are kind of moot since they provide dampening. He would just need heavier coils but unlikely he needs it for the front.

Deaver can build a pack for you if you decide to swap springs to meet your needs but expect to pay around $1k. Air bags may be your best option.

 

He’s looking for a solution that adds zero lift. There are currently only 3 options for his problem:

1. Have Deaver build a custom zero lift heavy duty leaf pack.

2. Remove the stock overload leaf and replace with a custom overload of a higher spring rate but NOT with more arch.

3. Air bags.

Option 2 is easy and cheap but will affect your right quality. Option 3 will not affect your ride quality and can be inflated only when towing.

 

Ummmm...... could you make a weight estimate on "....to haul a little bit more."

How much is a "..little bit.."?

As is, the truck will carry about 1000 lbs of cargo, people and add-ons.

 

From time to time I’ll go to a landscape supply and pickup a load of dirt, rock or sometimes pressure treated lumber. It’s a few times a year I have a lot of weight in the back and it looks ridiculous but I’m probably hurting the truck. I live in PA and the potholes are bad. I’m not to keen on airbags I would prefer a beefier leaf pack. In the future I would like to add some sliders and armor. Also is there options for the front because I would like to add a steel bumper? My truck spends most of the time on the road with light wheeling and I don’t need a lift because most of the trails I go on my stock Tacoma is more than capable.

 

Sumo springs or timbrens if you wanna go that way. No upkeep. Brother installed them on his and he’s happier than a pig in shit.... this after I did airbags on mine and fill em up, let air out and so on.... I don’t mind it.

 

I know AAL will lift the rear but what would give it more load capacity a single leaf or one that replaced the overload spring like the Icon?

 

I believe an overload replacement will resist sagging without lifting. Add a leafs usually increase arch and spring rate, where a heavier overload resists deformity.

The Sumo bump might actually work as they come in various rates.

 

Thank you everyone for your input. Does anyone have any complaints about Icon AAL? How much lift does it give you and what are good shocks to pair up with them without breaking the bank?

 

FYI. Altering the suspension may impact your ride comfort. Not a big deal for some owners while others may appreciate the firmer ride characteristics of a modified suspension.

 

I just installed the Sumo black 1000# version. I’ll be towing a 4000 lb-ish (loaded) travel trailer. Have not towed with them yet but notice little change in the unloaded ride. So far extremely happy with them.

 

How did they end up working out for you loaded?

 

I did Sumo Springs, cheap easy fix for me. Something to consider.

 

And they will work with MD Dakar’s I’d imagine

 

Air bags will be only way to not add lift and maintain current ride quality. Closest thing possible to having your cake and eating it, too.

 

OP if you re spring and don't haul except a few times a year... your ride is going to be shit the other 363 days. Air bag it and be done. Only pump them up when hauling. Takes two minutes... or squat like the rest.
