you're probably not going to get the answers you are looking for in here, they'll just tell you that SC is closed or how badly Charleston sucks.

I'd suggest checking out the city-data forum, lots of good info over there if you are looking to relocate.

thank you for the info, much appreciated.

ha, Yankees!  Definitely don’t want to live in the city but the “area”. Thx.

Too humid, I’ll pass. Also have to drive through Georgia to get there and me and Georgia don’t get along... and I’m not driving around. But thx.

As someone that grew up in Florida and lived in SC for almost a decade, hate to break the news to ya but SC is just as humid. Good luck!

I was going to say this. Unless you live beachside with a breeze there is no escaping the humidity.

It's like this....imagine living in a state that's fairly inexpensive (land and housing) and reasonable tax rates. You are from this state, enjoying the reasonable cost of living. Then all of a sudden, you have people from really expensive states start moving in, driving up the cost of everything. Fleeing their super expensive states, after voting in the same people that cause it to be so expensive to begin with. How would you feel about this? All of a sudden there are cookie cutter neighborhoods popping up everywhere, traffic has become horrible and the cost of living starts to rise. You start voting for the same type of people that caused your home state to become expensive, then fled that same state.

None of this is directed at you. Just a perspective from a person that's already living here.

I think he was being a little facetious.
We, the people, shouldn't need to go thru such extremes to be able to carry concealed in these United States.

Greenville, less humid and closer to the mountains. Typically gets some nice winds. Northwest corner of the state.

Columbia, humid and stale. Dead center in the state. Not much wind. I remember summers being 118 downtown.

Charleston, humid and hot. South east area of the state. But breezy because coastal. But the breeze doesn’t cut the humidity much. Probably the most expensive part of the state and probably the worst traffic. But it’s charming and nice to visit.

I will echo this sentiment, and I have lived all over the country in my life, including some of those super expensive states. Atlanta and Charleston seem to be two big time examples of this to me. Then there are perhaps less obvious examples to anyone who didn't know the area before, but Simpsonville and Five Forks in the Upstate are also prime examples. Downtown Greenville... Keowee... Asheville...

I should mention that I'm not against people moving here, but I would encourage folks to remember why you're moving in the first place, and leave any preconceptions behind when you do.

I've been in South Carolina sine 1992. Lived in the following towns.
    Sumter
    Columbia
    Hilton Head
    Spartanburg
    Goose Creek
    Summerville
    Hanahan
I've lived in the midlands, the upstate, and now the lowcountry. I will take the lowcountry
all day long. Charleston area is the place to be unless you want a quiet coastal area. Then
I would say Beaufort. One thing about South Carolina. No matter what city you live in you
can be in the country in 30 minutes.

Well if being deployed didn't suck enough ass as it normally does. Today I've been told to
pack my bags for a move to an army installation. Fuck my Life :frusty: Guess I must have ruffled
some feathers for my senior leaders to transfer me in the middle of my deployment. Nothing like
being deployed with a bunch of army fuckers. :infantry:

Same here! As for Asheville, I used to go visit all the time. THEN the great influx started. It's not the same quaint town it once was. Everyone moved there for the way that town was, which promptly ruins it. Now I avoid Asheville and head to places like Sylva. So don't move to Sylva!!!!

Yep, I spent my childhood in Tigerville and lived there off and on afterwards until we sold the family land. We used to go to Hendersonville for beer on Sundays and Asheville for the other recreational needs, because you could get the best other recreational needs there. :rasta:
