Best $2000 off-road upgrades.

I'm looking at upgrading a stock 2021 TRD off-road. I have 2000 dollars to spend.

I'd like to focus the upgrades on expanding the general off-road capability.

I don't want to impact the function of safety sense etc, or have more than a 1 maybe 2 mpg impact on economy.

Please be specific ie which models or sizes of tires suspension etc.

Like, lights, suspension, rims, tires, armor, bumpers front / rear, recovery? or just wheels and suspension?

 

Off-road and fuel economy won't mix. A good set of OR tires will immediately set you back ~2+mpgs by themselves. Let alone armor and roof rack etc...

 

Anything, those were examples.

A blue-titled truck is inexplicably far more capable than a truck that you still owe money on.

 

2.5" coil overs with appropriate valving and springs from @AccuTune Offroad and you will need upper control arms of some sort $2000 well spent. You do not have to lift with this set-up, but the ride is night and day when you're on good suspension vs a cheaper lift.

 

Sounds like you don't really want to do much. Perhaps a front level, new OE size tires and some better fog lights?

 

Yeah. Do you have specific level kits, tires etc in mind?

 

Proper off road tires would provide the most capability. An OME kit for a very slight lift would be next, might keep it around 2K.

 

Stay away from E-rated tires.

 

Just throw 255/85/16s on and call it a day. They’ll fit on the stock wheels and (I think) don’t rub on much. Use the rest on recovery gear or @MESO products!

Most 255/85s are E rated and you’ll take a hit on MPG but you’ll have a 33” tire...

 

The goal is increased offroad capability? Lockers and a winch. Tires and suspension aren't the same bang for the buck, but they're cute.

 

Any brand level would be fine. I would only do 1.5" if you do not want an Add a Leaf. If you do any towing or hauling then get an add a leaf and then go 2" level up front and the truck will be level front to back. Tires really depend on what type of usage and terrain. I am a Duratrac guy as they would well in everything down to snow and ice. Lots of other easy items such as a bed mat and box lights.

 

I'm surprised I've read some places where people have put 265/75r16 ko2s or duratracs and not seen more than a 2 mpg impact.

 

Good tires , sliders and some lights will be 2K .

 

There are both C and E rated versions. I wonder if alot of people have the Cs. Or just havent done anything else. I just installed Yokohama Geolandars M/Ts and lost 2.5

 

Sorry I'm a total newbie what would you recommend for sliders?

 

2 full sets of MaxTrax. Great for you, great for anyone else you might be wheeling with. Use them as ramps if needing better clearance. Great for snow, sand, mud. Easy to throw in another vehicle if heading for snow. I throw a set in my wife's car if snow is getting questionable. Cheap insurance. Really Versatile.

 

Are you looking to do serious rock crawling, or just want a piece of mind, or do you rather have steps?
