Has anyone else experienced problems trying to order a new Tacoma? I placed an order on Nov. 2nd, 2020 for a TRD Sport extended cab long bed in Army Green with manual tranny and premium package. To this date the dealer has stated that he cannot get any answers as to why they cannot order this vehicle. I had built it on their website and even sent him the build criteria. I have placed numerous call the the North Atlantic regional representative but again as of this date she has not returned my calls. I sent an email to corporate and their response was to contact regional. So I'm a little frustrated since the dealer has already cashed my down payment check but have not received a confirmation of order. Just looking for answers as to why I cannot order a new truck.

They can’t order it, they need one being built with those criteria allocated to them, or to trade for one. It’s just the way it works. If you are very specific in your build, it’s harder to get

This. At least in Canada, if you are told you are "ordering" a truck, all your dealer is doing is putting your name down for a truck, and then waiting till one shows up in a dealer allocation, or their allocation, and then they trade their allocations for that allocation of the truck you want. It is the single stupidest system I have ever seen.

    Sincerely,
    A dealership employee

From what I’ve heard, it’s the same way in the US.

Love my job, fucking hate Toyota's system. I can walk into a GM dealer and get a custom made canyon. To get the truck i wanted (white aclb, manual) i would have had to wait till august. Settled on a black ACLB auto.

I think I'd be asking for my down payment to be returned.

Then go hunt for a truck sitting on a dealer lot that is close enough to my "ordered" truck.

Or, be prepared to wait and wait and wait and wait.......

The more specific and greater departure from the masses, the longer it will take for the truck to materialize.

is ordering a truck from the factory ever a thing? I feel like it's something they used to do but nowadays they just try to finding something close enough locally.

Most likely it is because Toyota only builds Manuals about once every 3 months so you are going to have to wait for that build cycle to happen.

I went to the Toyota website to check this. If you input a TRD Sport with extended cab and long bed, it won't let you select a manual transmission. Your only option is an automatic. I'm afraid you'll be waiting until Hell freezes over to get that exact truck.

Mine was NOT out of the dealer's allocation - it was ordered & built at the factory for me.
It was not easy to accomplish and few (if any) dealers will go through the hoops to do it.

It's technically possible, but how the hell you got a dealer to do it, I don't know.

Toyota's website is kinda funky as it only will let you build what is currently available in your region. You can get a Sport AC MT but you are gonna have to wait a little

Thought I saw that exact truck on a dealers site in my region last month. I don't know if it's still there but they had multiple 4x4 Sport AC with a manual listed in a few different colors AG being one. I have read of semiconductor shortages which appear to be effecting all manufactures. I have not seen anything from Toyota about the shortage having an impact on Tacoma production.

So was mine. Ordered and built at the factory for me.
I ordered it on January 23rd of this year. Got the pre-vin about 3 weeks later. It was built on February 27th of this year.
100% just like I ordered it. Got the real vin in the next day or two.
The I received my allocated truck on March 26th.

It wasn't the dealer who did it - I worked directly with Toyota USA directly. It's a long story and took about 6 months to get the truck - mostly because I had ordered a 2020 and was built a 2021.

That wasn't my experience. I went on Toyota's website early in October and "built" a Sport Access Cab with manual transmission. I took the build sheet to my dealer and found that this configuration (model #7559) was not currently available in the Mid-Atlantic region. The dealer requested an allocation. The truck was built in Mexico in November and I got it in December.

The OP's problem is that he wants an extended (double) cab with a manual transmission. A model number for this configuration doesn't exist.
