That's fine, 5100s work for me. I think it rides better than my neighbors Pro, maybe because it's a longbed. However the clips do not compress the springs! Might wanna check on that one.

No sir, you are incorrect. On the Bilstein 5100, ride height adjustment is accomplished with a coil spring collar that changes between factory height and leveling height. Bilstein struts have multiple grooves for the snap ring to sit, and then the coil spring collar sits on the ring.

These different options basically control whether or not the strut tower is preloading the coil spring, so when the vehicle sits on the springs, it settles less than if it was sitting on non-preloaded coil springs. Preloadinig a coil spring to achieve lift means that the spring rate increases, and ride quality will be slightly firmer.

How did you think the ride height adjustment works?

Disagree, that is all I'm saying! Bilstein says otherwise.

There is nothing to disagree with, you are simply incorrect, no biggy. Bilstein’s website and their own YouTube videos explain how adjusting the preload through the use of the snap ring ride height adjusters changes the ride height without potentially bottoming out the shock and creating damage as you can with a simple spacer where both down travel and up travel are affected. Higher end shock assemblies allow you to “tune” the preload without having to remove and replace the shock by utilizing a threaded spring seat system (i.e. Bilstein’s 8000 series). This has been a feature on motorcycles for many years.

RevTec has recently marketed a preload “kit” for the TRD Pro Fox suspension, it is non adjustable, but does provide lift, at the expense of creating a stiffer ride and defeating the TRD “Tacoma tuned” feature of the TRD Pro suspension.

A helpful resource to learn about how ride height adjustable shocks work is found here. https://www.shocksurplus.com/pages/what-are-adjustable-height-struts-bilstein-pro-comp-rancho

I hope this helps to clarify for you how the Bilstein 5100 adjustable ride height system works.

I’ve been on 3rd setting now on 5th for a long time. IMO no ride difference. Now that being said yes when I got my E rated tires things changed a bit. Not as exaggerated as others mention about 5100’s. We could talk about this all day. What really matters if we are happy with what we got.

    Peace

Been on the 4th setting for 3 years, Son's is on the 5th. Both trucks ride great. 5100s are great, lifetime warranty provided your on the stock coils. Love the way mine sits over the Pros stance, my neighbor Pro is nice but then again he paid stupid money for it and it nots any better than what I have. One thing to remember, someone always has a faster, better looking car or truck. I buy what I want, when I want and do the mods that best fit my needs. You won't see me asking should I do this or buy that, talk me out of this and that. Come on,Man up and do your own thing. I know what works for me.

I don't believe the hate card is warranted, myself, and others are only trying to be helpful. The whole point of this forum is to help each other. I'm glad you are happy with your truck, that's the goal each of us has. Relax and enjoy the conversation, we can all learn from each other.

Thanks for your 2 cents Chuck. Im more than relaxed and one thing that I don't need is someone telling me to relax. Best advice is to just pass me on by. Passing incorrect information is not helpful.

Figure it out, I'm done! We all know you have a Pro and it's the best truck out there and your proud of it, good for you. Our trucks are not worthy of the Pro level. There are you happy.

:crapstorm: It's seems like it is much easier for you to respond with self righteous sarcasm than provide an answer to a legitimate question. It sounds more to me like someone was called out about their comments and got their feelings hurt.

I, nor anyone in this thread, ever said that their truck is the best truck out there, or even compared models. The OP asked a legitimate question and I responded, as other people did, as I happen to have an OR and upgraded it with the Fox Pro suspension. I am not a Tacoma fan boy, for me it is just another truck that has it's pros and cons, none are perfect. The comparison between digressive and progressive shocks was an appropriate part of the conversation for someone comparing the digressive Bilstein 5100's to the bypass valve progressive TRD Pro Fox shocks.

No one said your truck was not "worthy", what ever that means, nor were there even any derogatory remarks about it at any time. The information I provided concurs with the manufacturer's own description, and was collaborated with a Shocks 101 article on ride height adjustable shocks, such as the Bilstein 5100's, provided by a major suspension vendor to clarify the comment that spring compression is not affected by changes in preload when adjusting the snap ring setting on the Bilstein 5100's. The only way it is not affected is if you keep the snap ring in it's lowest setting, which you stated was not the case with your setup.

I, and I believe, everyone else on this thread, am happy that you are happy with your truck's suspension. No one is saying that you need to make any changes. I do hope that you take the time to reflect on how your emotions affect your ability to have a constructive conversation with others and that we can have positive dialogue in the future.

Enjoy your truck, that's what it's all about! :mudding:

Yes, I installed Headstrong's 3 Leaf Progressive AAL this weekend, it gave me back the rake I had with the original OR suspension.
