TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Are there any deals to be had on HP Tuners setup?
MPVI2 (pro?) and/or credits? It's looking to be almost $1k for me to get set up with HP Tuners and a spare ECU, so I'm looking to save a little cash.

 

Unless something's changed, discounts are somewhat rare and not very large. I looked/shopped for some time before pulling the trigger. At the time, Hanson Motorsports offered one of better deals.

No idea if it's still available or works for the Pro version. FWIW, I went with the non-Pro version, figuring I'd upgrade if/when needed and I have yet to find a need.

 

If I'm going to go down the rabbit hole of data logging, I feel like I'd like to be able to log AFR and maybe boost off analog outputs from those gauges (that I still need to get), which means I'd need the Pro.

It looks like I'd save $10 by purchasing 4 credits from HinsonSuperCars.com with their normal pricing. The coupon code does not work anymore it seems.

You can log AFR with an AEM gauge that is setup to 'inject' the output into the CAN-BUS and not have to get the pro features.

Shoot me your cost breakdown and I guarantee I can save you at least $200. That is way too high.

 

id assume that the tuner, credits, pro add-on plus the spare ECU. still agree with and prob closer to 900 if you need to have a spare ECU.

 

Do you really “need” the pro add-on? Tuner+credits $500 for basic setup. Junkyard spare ECU, $120ish. Get a TRD flash from Justin, can’t remember the going rate. This was my thinking.

 

I may not need the Pro if I get the AEM gauge that injects onto the CAN-BUS that @JustDSM mentioned above. I guess I'll start searching for a spare ECU as step 1.

 

For basic setup no you don't need it. Just unit and credits but assuming that's where the price came from.

HP w/ Credits $450 or so, $90 tune and good to go. Unless you need the spare then tack on the $150 or so.

 

I may be overthinking needing a spare ECU coming from a 1st gen where I realized that the K-line based ECU is basically fully unsupported for doing anything fun...

 

HP has improved the write sequence, but if it is your daily then I would recommend a spare. I keep one, a few others do as well.

 

I was in the same boat and was looking for one as a spare. I will likely get one but at the time I could not find one so went at it as is. Make sure that you remove anything drawing power and have a strong internet connection. The flash itself is pretty quick. Takes a couple of minutes.

I just bought the credits both times from hptuners directly. Less hassle as with those other places Like zzperformance and whatnot you gotta get the tuner id correct. Discounts weren't worth the time imo.

Go straight to the source for the actual credits. Guaranteed no problems that way.

well, your way ahead of me if you dont buy the ovtune 1st. bottom line hp tune is the best thing going.

 

Yep, I'm ahead of the game. No OVTune, just the TRD Tune on the ECU from the dealership.

 

youre doing fine. that tune isnt bad, just very rich. ive run it with a 2.5 pulley no problem. fine tuning with hp will yeild more, cleaner power.
