You're on the right track but a little off, there is no "boost" below 0 bar. Vacuum is read in the negative, because it is "sucking" once you get past 0 bar you are getting into "boost" and for a lack of a better term, you're "blowing".

    I beat you today.:D

I would think that it would have to be a huge leaf blower, but still wouldn't be boost in any sense of the word.

we may be misinterpreting each other, but i'm seeing it the other way around. if you have your intake drawing from static air, the higher rpm you're at, the more it has to suck in, and therfore, the higher the vaccume pressure will be. vacume pressure being the absolute value of boost, that would mean that it would go from 11 to say 15, or in terms of boost, -11 to -15. however, say you have a a "ram air" going faster, assuming the scoop works, will create a "boost" pressure. say it makes 2 lbs of boost at 50 mph, that means that your vaccume pressure is not 9, (boost = -9). whereas in a static system, you get no positive boost from flowing air, so it maintains the normal -11 boost.
make any sense or am i jsut going crazy:eek:

betcha you could if you're doing 250 mph :D

    a mental boost :pout:

Have you seen the video of the civic making 10 more hp with a hand held blower? I'm not sure if it's real but it's kind of funny.

i actually saw a youtube video of a car on a dyno a while back. they did a stock run, then pushed a leaf blower into the airbox, and actually got results. not great, but still results

edit: jason beat me to it

Today at school, since my Tacoma was covered in lime rock a few of my friends decided to draw big peckers on my doors and on the side of my bed along with a few words to go with.

they had to build up the front and than test fit it and they are shipping everything in one big shipment. And the rears took alittle longer since there were so many orders.

I cant wait for it to be done. I have no idea how to change all that stuff. I can do the dash and thats it. Sorry.

you crazy  The way I understand it the more the throttle is open the closer the vacuum is to zero that's why people use vacuum gauges to guide them to better mpg. The lower(higher number below zero to prevent confusion) the better they are controlling their lead foot.

but the more the throttle is open, the more air it has to suck. and to move more air, you need a higher pressure/force (to a point) no?

Colin, I think I understand what you're saying if you mean absolute number for everthing you just stated, but you start losing me as the paragraph went on. I'm trying to understand, lol.

Even if you're going 250mph, without forced induction the motor just can't suck that air in.

Jason, the leaf blower idea on a dyno is actually not a real world number because it won't push near the amount of air as if the car was actually running down the street.

No pics because I didnt have my camera on me at the time. I washed it off before I got home because I knew my parents would be pissed. The good side is I finally found my camera charger so when I go to Citrus i will definitely have pics up. The lil drawings and words are still ghosted on my truck so....

sorry about that, it's hard to type this kind of stuff without confusing everyone (myself included)

at super high speeds, it wouldn't technically suck the air in. the theorey is that while the intake valve to each piston is open, the pure speed of the vecile is so large, that it pushes more air into the chamber. so when the valve closes, you are left with a positive pressure. say 1, 2, or even 3 psi. of course you'll never get near the 8ish psi that a super charger puts out. this of course is all based on a scoop of sorts that actually works as a collector

I suck at explaining so check out the article and mostly the pic and you'll get an idea. The pinched part is the throttle position at idle and it opens up as you give it more gas.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect

I was accusing you of being a flamer. It was a joke though so keep your heart rate down.

I'm sure it wouldn't work but it's fun to dream about. Plus I don't think I could fit my blower under my hood or run with my hood open

Boost isn't just air moving fast, it's pressurized.

:yay: I'm glad you found it. The "ghost" is probably super light scratches that will easily come out next wax.

I don't think your hood scoop is capable of producing anything higher than atm because of it's shape, size, and location. I would think you would need a funnel.
