I hear ya. To be truthful, I considered just running the OEM until it puked just to see how long it would last. But as things are under Covid Rules, there are only a few people in my building. When I leave each day it isn't uncommon that my vehicle is the only one in the parking lot, a dead battery would be a pain in the ass, it was cheap insurance for me.

My OEM battery was labeled made by Johnson Controls. Interstate doesn't make batteries they market batteries made by Exide and others

The OEM liquid acid batteries are definitely junk especially if you park your truck outside, totally kills them faster. Just put an Odyssey 24F AGM in and the truck starts up like never before!

I bought my 2016 used and it kicked about a month ago...I noticed it didn't seem to start the same a week before and didn't shut it off during the ride to the store...came home and it started right up again....came back out a few days later and it wouldn't crank. Assuming that is the original battery it lasted 5 years...at least 2.5 that I have had it.

Ya anything you can do to prevent air from getting to the terminals, the better. Axel grease, silicon spray, Vaseline.

The lead from the battery posts and the metal from the terminals oxidize and cause corrosion. Some vehicles are known for having really bad issues with corrosion.

Yep, cleaning the blades is a must. Im surprised most people dont know about it. Everytime i wipe mine down, a lot of black soil comes off.

The corrosion is a combination of air and the hydrogen sulfide gas vented from the battery.

Once you have had your bad lead acid experience, you never do it again. Every car I own runs an Odyssey from day one, and the terminals get sprayed with Fluid Film if the terminals are in the engine bay.

4-5 year life is the norm, in my experience. I have a '05 Sequoia that we bought new. So in 16 years, I think I'm on battery #4. I have a 2015 Mustang GT that I also bought new and I just replaced the OEM battery. What I have found interesting is that modern batteries just seem to die a sudden death. In the 70's or 80's, I recall batteries giving more a warning by being slow to turn the starter. With modern electronics, new cars can do some funky things when the battery craps-out. We have a '17 VW Golf and the OM says the car has to be taken to the dealer for battery replacement. The chain stores, like Advanced Auto, won't touch it.

Very true. Plus add in that the worst thing you can do to a battery is 'not' using it. Our plow truck here is a 94' Bronco, so it only ever gets used 3-4 months of the year. The rest of the time, I usually start it up and let it run for 1/2 hour about once a month and between that keep a 1/2 amp trickle charger on it. It currently has a mid-level Interstate batt and 6 years now, so far so good.

I agree ... Back in the day, before dielectric silicone was even a thing, we used to smear whatever kind of grease you had at hand all over/in the batt terminals and cable connectors. If you really wanted to get fancy, you put those red/green felt pads on the batt terminals. Had very little (Next to zero) corrosion probs with the batt connections.

    True!
Every time I go to a fried chicken place, I save the little packs of those 'finger wipes' they give you. (Basically just rubbing alcohol) and use those to clean the blades from time-to-time. It's amazing how much crud gets stuck to blades and how much better they work when clean ..

These are definitly not interstate. Even there econo batteries are better tgen stock
It may be a special battery made for toyota and rebranded but il tell you an Econo interstate will last way longer than the stock cheapo. been there done that. Its like home depot selling crap cheaper lincoln welders that lincoln wont even sell. Same concet, there cheaper for a reason.
