@Rocky.Mtn So you did not have the holding to long of 5th gear?

I did experience the the 5>4>3 shift now that you mention it, but I think it was only a couple of times....

My experience with the tune is when I would be going ~75 mph in 5th and come up to a decent hill (mouth of Parley’s I-80 SLC, UT), I’d start to slow down and I’d give it more throttle, then more throttle, then more throttle, and rather than shifting it would bog, then at a certain point pretty deep in the throttle it would do a quick 5>4>3. When you look at the shift maps, you can see why it’s doing it. Again, I’m sure it’s a great tune for flatter areas.

I had 04B30 OV tune 2.0 premium stock tires and gears, updated the ECU to 04B33, question is the OV tune better than the stock factory 04B33 tune? Second question has anyone done a custom OV tune on 04B33 that improves the ability to tow?

    Thanks

    First post has tunes.
    I didn’t like TSB 33. But I have 5.29 gears and 35’s
2.0 was much better than TSB.

I’ve been running catless dump tubes forever and with vftuner I get to try all the tunes y’all put out. Thanks btw. Yes you just need to change both values to zero. Only if updating tune with agm battery was that easy lol.

@PapaRee I downloaded your latest version of the new tune, made the tweaks for my truck (5.29s and tires), and gave it a whirl. Came home and toned down the throttle sensitivity a bit to my preferred pedal feel, and then ran it a full day now.

I did get the 5->3rd shift three times today commuting to/from work, which pushed me to over 6000 rpm with my gears, when I only pushed the pedal enough for a moderate increase in speed. I might look at those maps and see how different the 3-4 downshift maps look compared to what I've been running previously. Overall, I'm getting about 1.5 less MPG, but I'm not going to judge that until I have more data.

The TC locking in 3rd gear felt right when I noticed it, so good stuff there.

    Thanks for the feedback!
I've been tweaking the shifting myself. Trying to get them perfect for me (down the rabbit hole I go, I know, lol).
I'll Pm you with my latest. I think those gears and your "terrain" makes a difference.

Yes, the rabbithole is strong. The conditions for the two 5th->3rd shifts were similar, highway at about 50-65 mph, giving just a bit more pedal that I'd been using. Here in a week or two probably, I'll PM you what I've been working on, as I quest for better MPGs with the 5.29s. See if anything translates back to 3.91 well!

Stupid question that's probably been answered a million times but how do I flash a .VFT file? Normally you use a .P5F with the PCMFlash Utility.

I read that I should do the TSBs but the TSBs change the ECU IDs is it too late to do the TSBs if the OV2.0 tune is already installed? they say my ECU will change from ID 04b31 to 04b33 is that true?

Only really a concern if you have unlocked B31 with the 5 credits you start with. If you haven't, then update and buy the tune pack. Make sure to send an email to request the download.

@uploadadventure would be the guy to ask. He updated from B31 to B33. I don't think he liked the update, but I think after having any tune, stock just doesn't cut it. But, it is always recommended to be on the latest update from Toyota when you tune.

If you unlocked the 04B31 ECU and bought the tunes for 04B31, then update to 04B33 you will NOT be able to use the 04B31 tunes you bought from my understanding of the process. That's why they say to update any TSB if needed or wanted BEFORE you unlock the ECU. @ktbell444 or anyone else is this correct???

yes, those shift point are way to the left and you are hitting Max allowed load. My table is the bottom for 5 to 6 downshift. Speeds in high angles need to go to the right for early downshift and maintaining the momentum. I yet to see downshift to 3rd on my hills

If you update your ecu to 04b33 you have to buy the 75 dollars worth of credit to unlock it again in VFtuner. If you don't want to edit it just send an email to ovtune and Matt will send you the 2.0 files for free and you can flash them on it. 04b33 is worth updating to due to Cruise control being improved.
