    Hello!
I just bought a 2021 TRD Off-road and simply want to remove the dealer license plate frames and swap in cooler frames. Up front was no problem and it is done.
The rear however has proven way more tricky than it should! I've now purchased two different frames and neither one worked due to the strange "notch" in the rear bumper the frame MUST sit in in order for the screw holes to align properly. It's crazy.
I would love links to order frames that work for my truck! The holes align and the tailgate clears, etc...
Seems like a silly problem, but I am 0-2 so far!
    Thanks for any help,
    -Steven

I did the same almost 5 years ago, just left it with no frame due to them not fitting

I drilled out the holes in the plastic and put the bolts through to the metal behind them. But yeah you would think something as universal as a license plate would be so universal and standard they would not need to make it a chore.

I used a super thin frame so it would fit down in that groove in the bumper.

Here you go! Fits perfectly. I would use the regular caps instead of the security caps on the bolt heads though. When it comes time to take them off the security caps have to be drilled off.

I have no problems with mine. Just chose one from O'Rielly's.

Call me crazy, but there is no frame on the rear plate of my '21 without issue.

This. Use a thin frame that doesn't overhang the plate itself. (I used the same type on both front and rear.)

I had a frame but had to remove it every year to pay registration fees to get a new sticker so I took mine off.

As you will note on the picture that I posted, above, the registration stickers fit well within the frame (if you're using a slim frame).

I had a pleasant experience with the dealer where I bought my Taco so I’m still running the dealership frame in the rear. I wasn’t aware that running a different frame could be a problem.

I had a Toyota frame that covered up a lot of the plate and removing it was tedious.

Has anyone else in California seen the new electronic plates some people are getting? I think it’s some sort of trial program. If your registration expires it changes colors I think. I saw one on an SUV the other day. I’m not a fan, especially since I seem to always be kicking the rear plates when I climb into the back of my truck or bumping it when I’m hooking-up to a trailer.

Those were debuted years ago. Glad to see they are finally rolling out to more areas.
