Hi all, you were all very helpful in talking me out of buying the last truck I was looking at (2006 DCLB), so I'm hoping I can get your feedback on this one.
    • 2009 DCLB TRD Sport 4x4
    • 160k miles
    • Originally a Canada truck (Alberta) for 7 years (1 owner and 100k miles)
    • Last 5 years in Washington State (2 owners)
    • No service records
    • Date of first use June 2009
    • Dealer is asking $17k
    • roughly 3.5hr drive from me (7 round trip)
    • Heated Leather Seats
There is some surface rust on the frame, but it doesn't look too extensive like some photos I've seen here - that said, I do understand the frame rusts inside out, so what you see is not what you get. However, I'm a little confused about the frame warranty enhancement (replacement and/or CRC). I've read that it doesn't pertain to Canadian vehicles, but I've also read that some dealers do honor it - is this a YMMV sort of thing?

This will not be a daily driver but used for mountain bike shuttling, hauling house project crap, potentially some camping/hunting (we have a LC for that).

So, yay or ney? Walk away? Buy it now? The maximum you'd pay? Thanks!

Here’s my opinion. That’s too steep of a price for 1 with possible rust issues. The frame has some rust. Not horrible, but not great. If it needs a frame replacement, it has to be done in Canada. My truck is currently in Canada getting the frame replaced. With the covid thing going on, Canadian customs would not let me drive, tow, or haul my truck into Canada. I had to pay a commercial shipper $1300 to just take it across the border and bring it back across when it’s done.

Wow, that’s a lot of trouble.
Seems like it would have been easier for Toyota to pay a local dealer to do it.
What do you do “if” you have a problem after you get the truck back?
Fix it yourself? Because shipping wouldn’t make it too cost effective.

    OP, I’d pass.
I would drive over 3 hours to look at a truck I wasn’t 100% sure about.
Let alone, one that has to be worked on in Canada.

I had it inspected and approved in July of 2019. At that time, it was easy. Drive it across, get it inspected, drive back, and then drive it up there when the frame gets in and drive their rental car back home. The frame finally got to the Canadian dealer in the middle of this covid crap. I’ve been holding off getting the frame swapped, hoping the border restrictions would lighten up. I finally realized that there’s no hope in sight. So, I did what I had to do. Still, $1300 + my time and fuel transporting to and from Bellingham is still better than paying $13K+ for a frame swap. The dealer it’s at does a lot of frame swaps and they come highly recommended. Even if I do have a problem, I’ll fix it myself.

I have basically the exact same truck (heated leather seats too) and mine doesn’t look as worn. And I have all my service records. Be patient. Do not get excited

Thanks, everyone for your replies and feedback, good to hear.

@Muddinfun sorry to hear about the hoops you are having to jump through with your frame replacement, but having it done will be worth it.
