How deep of water have you gone in stock?

There’s not a chance in hell I would attempt that crossing.

 

How you drive plays a big role. Two of these trucks are stock and made it through the water just fine. One has a lift and ended up with a new engine because of a little too much gogo juice.

 

Honestly I try to stay so shallow that it doesn't even touch the bottom of the brake rotors anymore. Submerging the hubs means you're replacing items a lot faster than you expected. There was a period of time (partially thanks to what heavy spring rains will do to Houston, and partially because I wheeled it like I stole it) I was changing wheel bearings every 8 months, and the carrier bearing every 12. I burned out my locking hubs, occasionally killed a couple of belt pulleys, I could never get the power steering to act right, and also there was a various assortment of other odds and ends that I can no longer remember on that truck.

Playing in puddles is 'spensive, mud doubly so, and fuck beach sand thrice over. No thanks, I'll find other ways to get my jolllies now.

 

Bet the dude who hydro locked his engine wished he had a snorkel for that day. Snorkels do help occasionally if something goes wrong or you're showing off!

 

That shouldn't have caused hydrolock? Unless he had an aftermarket intake or removed the fender liners.

 

I've probably been beyond the cervix is that beyond balls deep?.

It was a few years ago, but if I remember right he had a snorkel ready to install before he got the truck back from the dealership.

 

Hmm, it just looks like the water current would have swept away the truck. I guess I am wrong.

 

I'm with you, I was surprised that it hydrolocked also. He did have fender liners.

 

It's all about steering angle, power, keeping the tires stuck on the ground. In a 24 hour endurocross race I compete in (dirtbikes),one of the biggest obstacles is a crossing like this. Takes out about half the field usually, scene on the other side is crazy. 20-30 bikes with spark plugs ripped out, spewing water out the top.

 

It should have, looks like he somehow managed to bounce off the right rocks at the right moment to maintain footing. That dude rolled the dice with death for sure. Moving water is one of those things that's completely harmless right up until the moment it kills you.

Can’t answer your question regarding the truck and crossing water but I will say mud freaking sucks! It gets in everything and then if you roll your windows down or use your wipers it can scratch your glass. I did that on my old Jeep, it was an old POS but it still sucked. I will say I did have the head lights and door handles submerged in water a few times. No problems except for some water on the floor. I wouldn’t do that with my truck though!

 

I’ve crossed the deepest water that I have encountered- which was about 3 inches. Not much water here in the desert

 

All stock through water maybe touching the rear differential, along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. That’s 36,000 feet deep.

 

you have to understand and look to where the LOWEST air intake opening on the air box is. (stock, or with the "snorkle", understand the snorkle is for dust/sand, NOT WATER FORDING). in water, once you get to the air intake opening (lowest ones remember), your truck motor becomes a vacuum cleaner, and it will suck up all liquid, and push it through the filter, like it wasnt there. then hydrolocking comes next. this is on you! personally i wouldnt go deeper than the bottom of the bumper valance. your results may vary

About this deep... I echo what everyone has said above; keep a speed where you have a nice bow wave in front of you. After this trip I installed a snorkel just in case I encounter water like this again.
