Has anyone experience a slight shudder while
Slowly Accelerating at low rpms without making the truck downshift? I’m getting a shudder every time the truck seems to go into a high gear and drop to low
Rpms. As I slowly creep up on the accelerator it will do it. Speed limit around my town is 45 mph. It runs at around 1200rpms at that speed. If I punch it to downshift it’s smooth but if I creep on the gas between 40-45 mph it shudder lightly.I have a 19 trd off-road stock with 16k miles. Came across a post with the 2016s getting a reflash for the shift points on the transmission. Is this still an issue on the newer 3rd gens?

I have 2018 limited and it does same thing. The truck stutters. I brought it to one dealership and they can witness the stutter when they drive with me but don't know what to do and say to reach out to toyota. I reached out to toyota and they say it's a normal operation for tacoma. I complained so they made me bring it to another dealership and as soon as I walked in and said my truck stutters they said it's a normal operation. It's really annoying driving it sometimes when it stutters. Nobody will do anything at toyota. Only solution for me so far is to press the gas harder to get out of low rpms.

Im afraid I will get the same answer. I’m supposed to take it in to dealership Saturday. And yes it is annoying . It keeps hunting for a higher or lower gear at that speed . I have read of people getting a transmission tuner (shift sense) and Apperently it changes the shift points to a more pleasant drive.

Yes I will update on here what they tell me at the dealership. Apperently this is an issue that’s been going on for some time with the second gens as well.

I keep reading about OVtune but seems they only go to 2020, grrrr. Just bought a 2021 and reading the info I'd happily pay the money if it worked with my truck.

My 2021 has some shudder issues just at different times. This whole intelligent mapping thing they have is kind of annoying.

Just recently dealt with this issues. Low speed acceleration caused shudder. Had mechanic flush and refill trans fluid and it fixed it. I have 95k on my 16, first time it’s ever been an issue. Guessing the trans fluid was bad or very low as some others have reported it’s a common issue. Start there and see if it does anything for you. Also check u joints.

Ya. Im familiar with the issue. The tsb lessens it but doesnt get rid of it completely. It does perform better after having the update done. Some guys have stated it was caused by torque convertor lockup and if that is the case, it would be considered normal operation and likely not be able to eliminated completely.

Are these Toyota service bulletins internal to Toyota technicians? I called dealer to tell them about the tsb and they said the fuel
Pump recall is the only thing popping up as a recall for my truck?

I found a copy of Tsb 0092-20 online and my vin code is on there. Are we able to get this form off Toyota website ? Just want to give them a solid proof when I go in there to call them out on it .

Yes. There not a recall. Its better not to mention the tsb on the phone when u call imo. Just make an appt. for excessive gear hunting/ shifting and then take the tsb with u when u go in.

So as promised , I wanted to share my experience of taking my truck to Toyota dealer for the shudder issue. I explained to them what was going on and brought up the tsb. The service advisor right off
The bat was trying to avoid
That and said that that tsb 0092-20 would not fix that problem. They test drove it and said they indeed feel the vibration and called it transmission torque wrap. Guy said it was normal and that was the way the truck was design. I think it’s total BS. They said software was up to date and that was the end of it . I think I will call Toyota corporate and complaint. Obviously
There is a problem with the shift points on this transmission that appears to be causing my issue.

yea the tune on this truck is fucking garbage. even with the update. they need to come out with a better tune. it lugs the engine way too much and causes excessive vibrations.

My Aug-2020 does the same thing. I've just got used to it, but I still plan to ask during my first service.
