So you bent the mount with a deep well while the pillar was installed? Or just to get an idea of angle

 

Yes, I put on the new A pillar, then installed the long bolt, pushed the pillar into position with my left arm, placed the socket over the bolt and slowly bent the mount till it lined up centered with the pillar. Stopping to check with each bend pass.

 

This thread gives me a good chuckle.

That's already been discussed multiple times. The A-pillar does not obstruct deployment of the air bag. Even the factory A-pillar does not "come off" for the air bag to deploy. The air bag comes out from between the A-pillar and the trim and then down the side to cover the side window area. No obstruction at all. Plenty of videos online showing how it works in a Tacoma.

 

Holy shit they do exist. I was starting to think this was a very elaborate scam for my hard earned 2019 $165.

First impressions are positive, and all the hardware is correct. We’ll see how install goes... You guys, combined with the fiasco of actually getting the thing, may have lowered my expectations far enough to stave off at least initial disappointment (keyword initial, and subject to change upon install).

Well it’s installed (one of the perks of working from home and taking an early lunch). Some thoughts:

- I took tmaloy’s advice above and tweaked the upper mount slightly with the bolt before the handle was on. It took bending, but less than I thought. It was obvious that without bending alignment wasn’t happening. Even so, I feel like getting the right ‘twist’ on the trim piece to align both holes was a miracle. I think I got the lower threaded with dumb luck then at least it was held in place to start the upper which was a pain. Having taken off the passenger side at the same time made it obvious how much of a PITA this was. Install 4/10. It was easier and quicker to align and install a diamondback cover solo, mid winter than this.

-Fit and finish, I’ll give it a 7/10. I think this would drop more if it was next to the passenger trim/handle. I have a little tweaking to do on the lower cover to get it to fit flush, but I didn’t mess with it yet. Tolerances along the window and along the inner seal along the door appear similar. Mine came in decent shape. My garage is also dimly lit.

- Function, it’s a handle, and I can use it to pull my short butt up into the seat, which is what I wanted. 8/10.

-Customer service. It is what it is and that’s a 1/10. She made it right for me on the whole paying for priority, actual shipping via USPS ‘let’s have your package circumnavigate the globe, go MIA for a couple weeks, then show up 5 hours earlier than you’ve ever gotten a mail delivery’. And making it right is the only reason this got a point in scoring. Lessons learned, and I’ll stick to other vendors for my custom parts needs.

 

I do peek on the Dark Side for some laughs.
