6th gear is a joke!

C'mon......6th is for the long, flat, straight, open interstates running across NE, KS, OK and SD.

 

Auto is garbage? Some strong words there chief.

It is far from garbage, i drove several 3rd gen ATs and they were fine. I know 2 guys personally that love their ATs and they go through mountain passes. A lot of other TW members have no issues as well.

 

If this 3rd gen setup did not have 6th gear , people would be asking for it . Use S mode or get a Shift sense pro , or pay the big bucks and get OVtunes vftuner , and tune it out . I like 6th gear for flat land boring drives and MPG .

I work at a dealer and have driven 10s, if not hundreds of tacomas thousands of miles across a variety of terrain, and I can assure you, it is far from garbage.

 

I doubt your 6th gear will work in his place...

 

My 2018 didn't come with sixth gear. Never seen it.

 

Yep. Thats one thing the latest tsb does, keeps it from shifting into 6th at a low rpm.

Lift and larger tires?
Was it properly geared? Recalibrate ECU for tire and/or gear changes?

 

Florida is flatter, the only hills are the over passes, and it drops to 4th all the time.

This is just a tuning issue, but wow the tuning is incredibly bad.

This has to be some convolved way they got an extra MPG on the useless EPA test by screwing up the normal operation of the truck.

 

Not sure I agree about FL being flatter. I've driven the length of all those states.

Although, I do admit, there are more blue hair driver's pokin' along......... Then you get closer to the tip where English becomes a 2nd language.

 

This mod helps get the most out of 6th. I ran it for a while, but took it off to mount empty pelican cases for the ‘gram.

How fast are you speed limits? lol. I just hate having to downshift 2 gears to pass anyone. Not worth the better fuel economy on short trips.
