Archive Garage rear towers/shackle flip/SUA. King Air bumps. King LT Coilovers in front. King 12x2.5 in rear. ARB rear air locker and twin compressor. I designed it to hinge off my relentless high clearance rear bumper but could probably easily be converted to a swing out style I think. Building a Wilco style tire carrier to replace it.

I used to get 2 ton of hay at a time between truck and trailer with my taco on hankook Dynapro ATM c rated. I never had any issues. When you look at what the tires are rated for by weight, and see what your truck weighs, I think you'll find the C and SL are up to the task. The biggest difference will be more flexible sidewalls, which at 5000ish lbs won't really be much different.

When you do get new tires, make sure to get 5, not 4. Gotta keep the spare up to size. On wifey's 4runner, I am thinking to go duratracs when it is time to change tires out next fall, but being stock, I'm thinking to get C rated. Her rig weighs something like 5000 lbs, and does some occasional towing.

No roof rack right now but maybe this is my best option. I haven’t had many trails where height of my rig is an issue.

I switched to E two years ago and the ride is a bit stiffer. I do love that piece of mind though. I was reading you can probably stuff 285/70r17 under there and I think @Shadowhunter was telling me that too.

I am just created two accounts. :argue: Gets boring in these COVID times lol. I think it’s more of a question of how @utroda was so still to have both images of different trucks look identical lol.

I have a 285/75-16 (which is the same size) under my bed. Just needs a little hammer massaging of the guides to get it to fit. Could probably fit a 34 under there if it wasn't inflated.

There’s guys on TW that have massaged a 35” up in there. Gotta mess with the guides and move the tire hanger thingy ma jig back. There is write ups on it here if ya do some digging.

If I was anywhere close to 5000lbs I wouldn't be so worried about it... I'm not over 7K like some people I know, but I am definitely over 6K.

As for five tires, ABSOLUTELY. I still have the OEM spare under there, and it's always concerned me a little that I didn't have quite as capable a tire. When I bump up in size, I'll definitely be getting a fifth tire to match. Especially going up in load capacity.

On trips I have a 285/75r16 under there and drilled 2 new holes to move the tyre hoist back a bit. It’s level with the bottom of the hitch but for real wheeling it goes in the bed, daily driving it stays home

Well shit. You have added just a bit ik weight then. Curb weight on a stock 2nd gen v6 4x4 is somewhere in the neighborhood of 4200. If you have already added an extra ton, you may want to be wary of pulling a trailer. The original ratings were based on stock setup, which allows for a payload of about 1000 lbs, or 6500 lb trailer. If you have oversized tires, and you haven't regeared, 6000+ lbs of truck with the trailer is going to make your transmission want to disown you. Even with regearing, your axles probably won't want to be your best friend anymore.

I see now though why you'd want E rated, being such a fatty and all. Your truck should go on a diet...

I've noticed a little bit of water on the passenger side of my 3rd gen. It was going into the dealership for other work so I asked them to take a look. Without blinking they said the Prinsu roof rack.
Am I crazy to think if it was the roof rack leaking the headliner would be wet?

no, I had a similar issue on my GX, except it was driver side. The seatbelt/floor was sometimes getting wet after I installed a prinsu rack. Headliner was dry, water was made its way in via a bolt on the prinsu mounting bracket. It’s been sealed up and has been fine.

other cause maybe a sunroof drain, if you have one. I had checked mine and it was fine.

Thanks- What did you do to seal it? I originally used a good amount of 3M marine-grade sealant. I was thinking of going over all the mounting points with a butyl seal tape.

O yeah, I know exactly what you are saying.

I'm not running oversize tires currently, but will be going up one inch so I can get the Duratracs in E. Before I do that, I will be having my truck re-geared. Either 4.30 or 4.56. I'm not sure yet which. Will also have the transmission serviced at that time, along with transfer case fluids changed. I've actually been amazed my bearings have held up. I bought a spare front bearing setup a few years back just in case, but still been going fine (knock on wood). I'm not suggesting anyone run like I do, but the truck has treated me well since I purchased it new in 2011, and I hope it continues. I've only got about 102,000 miles on it, and I'm betting at least a third of those are towing.

4th gear has been my friend. Once I re-gear, maybe I'll be able to use 5th again!! Also helps that I've learned 65 mph is fast enough, and perfectly happy in the slow lane going over the pass (which I do, ALL THE TIME, lol). Doing 70+ averaging 8mpg to Moses Lake really sucked fuel when towing. Keeping it at or under 65 has kept me between 11 and 12. Also a safer speed!

i went back over the bolts (checked for tightness) and used a generous amount of clear silicone sealant. It doesn’t look the best up close, but it keeps the water out.
