Brass compression fittings on PVC air line?

Need some advice from the TW community:

Can brass compression fittings be used to couple 1/4" diameter PVC air line, such as that used for air bags?

For me, these are more readily available than the push-to-connect types.
The lines could be pressurized up to 150 psi (bags will not be operated at this pressure, however).

 

Bump, anyone?

 

What will be the normal pressure?

Brass compression fittings are used all the time in household plumbing.

 

You will need the correct compression farrels and inserts to keep the plastic from crushing.
That being said
i do not like PVC used in compressed air systems.
Many do and have no problems, BUT not good.

 

I've seen people use both types of fittings on air bag setups.

YES indeed, PVC does not like hydrocarons ( oil from compressor or ? )
It also becomes very brittle in sunlight or UV rays.

As the temp goes up the pressure rating drop very quickly.
Compressors produce very hot air and many introduce oil into the compressed air.
Pipe can fail and schrapnel will fill the air.

Air lines for bags are a different plastic I think.

 

You can use them. Some people prefer to use compression fittings over push to connect because they claim it gets a better seal. On my s10 I have used both compression and push to connect and they both work good.

PVC & Air pressure lines = EXTREMELY BAD
Don't do it.
PVC is NOT designed to hold compressed air.
Any one who has told you it's OK to use for air is badly mistaken!
There are lots of materials you can use for air lines but PVC is one to most definitely stay away from! If you have it in, take it out!!!
There is no such thing as PVC air line.

we have PVC pipe running off our compressor in our basement and its routed under the floors and into the walls to our garage. Haven't had a problem in 5+ years of having it installed. Our system is 125lbs or less.

I wouldn't use the brass comprssion fittings (with furls,etc) on PVC.

Use regular threaded pipe fittings, and quick disconnects (if possible). Nothing wrong with the nylon quick pushloc fittings.

 

I don't think people understand Ben, try another approach..

Option #1 above, is what is used at work. We have miles of it on reels.

Sorry , my mistake!

Had a friend get hurt when a PVC pipe that was being used as an air line blew. He was almost 40 feet away & he ended up with a few stitches from it. Could have been MUCH worse! Janster the system that injured my buddy was only 130psi!
Wouldn't wish that on anyone.
