Which colors have clear coat? How important is it?

Buying a white taco soon, and I was just made aware of certain colors having and not having a clear coat on it. And wondering if that’s a concern. I would imagine that clear coat woah be awesome for off roading! But wondering if it really is?

I’ve read every forum I can find, and can’t find a definitive answer.

It seems like white does NOT have a clear coat applied to it (or mixed in?)...would this be less desirable than a clear coat being on the truck? Is there any pro to having your truck painted in a single stage (versus two stage)?

would y’all rather have a truck with a clear coat?

there’s an option on the truck I’m buying that says

(P2) vehicle protection package ($359)
-paint renewer cleaner
-paint sealant
-fabric guard

is this a good replacement for a clear coat?

 

Might want to rethink white, they have been known to have a peeling issue (not just on the Tacoma).

 

I don't know of any that do NOT have a clearcoat. Where did you hear that rumor? The white wouldn't be shiny if it didn't have clearcoat. Any vehicle paint would fade and look flat if there wasn't clearcoat on it, and it wouldn't last very long at all.

from what I found, it’s mainly 2017s and a couple 2016s. My truck is shiny as hell so I’m guessing it has to have some sort of clear on it

 

they all have clear coat, the white used to be (not sure if it still is) a single stage which has the clear mixed in with the base

 

Damn. This is what I’m trying to confirm. Is there any way to confirm this without having to buy the truck first?

well technically its a not a true "clear coat" like a two stage paint job

I wonder how this even works....my zero knowledge of paint tells me that it could be awkward to mix paint with a plastic. ‍♂️

 

why isn’t there a 2 stage paint job? There has to be some sort of logical reason

 

Call the Toyota Body Shop. They probably know.

Or contact the local automotive paint supplier.

I have owned several white vehicles. Not one was without clear, also not one had peeling or bubbling of paint.

The onmi paint base coat mixing instructions require that the white base coat requires 10% of the clear coat HARDENER to be mixed in, not the clear coat itself.
The RTS white only requires 5%.
All other colors this is optional.
So, white tacos do indeed have a clear coat,

 

Are you referring to single stage? Single stage is a two in one.

 

if you've ever polished or buffed your truck you might notice white coming off on the pad or rag, thats a pretty easy tell if you have a single stage
