    So if it requires a clear coat, are you saying that white does, indeed, have a clear coat?

    Clear coat is not a plastic. It's basically what it sounds like; a clear coat of paint (to simplify)

    Not even close to clear coat. That's just either port or dealer fluff to make them easy money.

    Just buy the color you want, keep it clean and waxed with a good product and don't worry about it.

    My white '13 looks fine and lives in the Fl sun.

    Right. I plan on off-roading this thing quite a bit, and I’d imagine a clear coat would give me an extra level of confidence to go through some brush that I otherwise wouldn’t do. Haha

    Haha..

    Single stage used to be on non-metallic colours, 'clearcoat' is mixed with the colour and sprayed in one stage. Also when buffed/polished the colour comes off on the pad.

    Autogeek on Toyota single stage white;
    At first, thought it was single stage as well. However, after getting into an accident, and speaking with the body shop, can confirm the paint is Base/Clear. Toyota changed over to Base/Clear around 2015, due to oxidation complaints.

    Not cheaper if your Taco loses value because the paint looks bad after a few years.

    I just spoke to the dealer that told me that cement and white do have clear coat mixed in, making it a one stage process. Metallic colors do it in two stages. That’s what she said but I don’t know

    I hear the single stage ones have the clear coat mixed in before application.

    My 2016 single stage white paint looks brand new because I take care of the paint with proper cleaning and quarterly *spray-on ceramic coatings :thumbsup:

    Chemical Guys spray-on ceramic coating, nothing crazy and nothing that can't be done in an afternoon. Might cost me about $100 a year for the soaps and new microfibers.

    True ... a color coat with clear mixed into it is not the same as a color coat (Then wet sanded) with a clear coat applied on top of that.
    It all depends on (As stated) cost and really... How much work you wanna put into it. The results from either though are vastly different. A single coat, while looks good and can be really shiny ... Is not the same as a color coat with clear over it, that really gives it that 'DEEP' look. That 'deep' look doesn't 'pop' as much with white as it does with darker colors.
