Leveling kit

Alrighty. I’m gonna have to call the shop and get some more details but from what y’all are saying the 265’s seem to be the way to go. I’m bewildered by how they say there won’t be any rubbing and no trimming has to be done and it’ll be totally fine after everyone’s experience here. Thanks a bunch for the heads up

Welcome to the forum! If this is for a daily driver that may occasionally see a trail and you only want to level then you may want to play it safe with 265/70's like previously recommended. There are many with actual 3" lifts that still had to do inner fender, body and/or frame modifications to keep 285's from rubbing as also previously stated. Also when you get around 3" you start running into possibly needing to replace your upper control arms for alignment and potential contact with the tire depending on wheel spacing. Just something to think about!

 

This is exactly why I decided not to get any sort of a lift.

 

Additionally, you can run the 265's worry free for now stock or leveled and if you decide to proper lift later the 265's still look and function well on these trucks. And when you do decide to wheel none of the guys running 285's or bigger will be able to do a front tuck like you can!

So I just got off the phone with the shop and he’s saying that with a 3” level in the front and 1” in the back I’m good with 285’s. It’s an additional $200 from the original quote. He says they do it all the time and it’ll be good to go and they wouldn’t put me on the road with any rubbing going on. But if I wanted to do the 265’s they do a standard 2” level also. Hmm...thoughts?

 

Any information on the 3" level or even 2" level that they are going to be using? Also what are the doing in the rear, block or AAL?

If No seriously off roading...just want bigger tires , spacers kits may fit your needs...remember Spacer kits are for cosmetic...no increase in suspensions ( downward travels) ,allows only for bigger tires..and looks..
Alway get a re-alignment!
I know ,no mention of type of leveling kits...just infos’s to consider..
No one wants to make the wrong decisions..

So if you have a shop doing it and warrantying the work and parts you should be fine assuming that they will be doing the necessary trimming and alignment after the lift, at this point it comes down to your preference . Even on RC's website it recommends running 265/70R17 in the specs but lists below that you can run 285's with "minor trimming" involved. So does a spacer lift suite your needs for your use? Do you like the look of a 2" front lift vs a 3" front lift? Another consideration is your rear suspension, will you be adding weight? If so a block in the rear isn't going to cut it. You should look into an Add a Leaf or even new spring pack for more weight to reduce spring sag and float. For tires some think 265's look small and prefer the look of the meatier 285's but also consider the price difference and what all is required to make the 285's fit. Thanks Lava. Yeah, I won’t be doing any serious off roading. Just trails, ranch, camping, road trips, daily driving for work. Not going into monster truck territory with crazy suspension and a ladder to get into my truck. I like the idea of 285’s with a 3/1 level vs 2” with 265’s but just wanting to be sure I don’t have any rubbing. I can’t really find any pics to compare either. He assured me there would be no rubbing either way though.

 

I would find a new shop tbh. They dont seem very trustworthy

 

Thanks for the insight DirtyLeg. I do want a leer camper shell down the road but am gonna hold off for a bit on that.

 

They have great 5/5 reviews but yes have been only in business for 3 years. I don’t know anyone personally that has used them.

 

265’s on 2” lift with right wheels look great IMO. 285’s require a lot more work than people think.

Have them mount the 285s to try out. And if it doesn't work, go 265s.

It’s a $200 difference which isn’t much but they have to order the kit so unfortunately I don’t think that’s possible.

 

It's not the height of the tire that is the problem, it's the width, hence the CMC. Your truck, your call. Personally, I would not do it.

 

I got a 2" level kit for the front and went with 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeak At3w. I had some rub and trimmed the plastic inside the wheel well. Haven't had any other issues
