Full Size to Tacoma

Wow. 6’3” is pretty tall to fit in a Tacoma from what I have seen!

 

It’s a bit tight but the truck has given me the ability to get out and have more fun. Well worth it.

 

Update. This just came in. Tomorrow is decision time! These Tacos really don’t sit on the lot very long!

6" 6' here. With a 3" lift and 33"s I still have to duck to get in, very comfortable and good fit for me.

 

Midsize trucks like the Tacoma definitely have their advantages like easier parking and better for offroading. The main drawbacks are less power, less towing/hauling capability, and less comfortable seats. The Tacoma's seats for the 2020 models are ok but they are not luxurious by any means. Coming from a full size truck, you might be accustomed to very comfortable seats. The Tacoma's seats are ok but they are nothing to write home about. Long trips can be tiring in these seats for some people. Make sure you like the seats before buying the Tacoma. Go on an hour-long drive if possible and see how they feel.

I drove an F150 for 14 years before replacing with my Taco. The 1st few months were the hardest ( imo). Missed the v8 power and the smooth highway ride but love the better mpg and cornering ability. My only complaint would be like most here, is the lousy transmission shifting but between ECT and S mode it's cool.

 

Well. To follow up... a couple of interesting things happened (posted some of this on another thread). First, I found out I am going to be a grandparent. So, the thought of occasional car seats, etc. entered the equation. I was still thinking about transitioning back to a Toyota, but decided to take a look at a 4Runner. Although the differences are not huge, there is a bit more room in a 4Runner. (Yes, I did briefly consider Tundra/Sequoia - but price for the Tundra, and the fact that this is not going to be a full-time family hauler, left me comparing Tacoma and 4Runner).

Second, I happened to be test driving an SR5 Premium 4Runner 4WD when we had a pretty substantial snowfall a few days ago. They let me keep it overnight. I inquired about driving it in the snow, and the salesman said, “Don’t worry about getting it dirty!”

Driving that thing had me hooked in about 10 mins. As much as I did like the Taco - the transmission, the general driving characteristics, and the room of the 4Runner tilted the decision. Went down and closed the deal. So, for me, it ended in a 4Runner. (Still love the Taco, however).
