Toyota going CHEAP..!

go look at the terrible paint thread I started last week, LOL I just posted pictures. I haven't owned a tacoma yet. still deciding. I need better off road wheeling ability. I can emphatically say this after everything I have seen including going on a test drive. your average person is crazy to buy a tacoma over say an f150, I paid 37k brand new for my 2017 crew cab 4x4, locking diff, larger touch screen. plus a 3.5 liter twin turbski beast under the hood, with nearly 500 ft pounds of torque pounding it out from 1600 rpm like a locomotive. I can tow 12k, the only limitation is the suspension, not power. the comparable tacoma will be about 5 grand less, but thats it. Like I said if not for needing better off road wheeling ablitilty no way I consider it, none! I also believe toyota used the wrong forumla for the powertrain. I understand what they were after, but the 3.5 engine from the sienna they made for years put out v8 like torque at low rpm, and was able to get 24 mpg @ 84 mph in my 2007 sienna loaded with kids and backage. Why they couldn't have used that engine, tweak the heads and intake for some even better flow, coupled it to say an 8 speed trans. I dunno, they would have both the mpg they wanted, and the grunt people desired, from a proven engine combo. instead everyone complains about no grunt, and I can see why.

 

Actually the one that irks me is the no intermittent wiper.

No blindfold,.but I do wear eye glasses..? the last time I brought a new truck was a 1986 Toyota 4x4 pick- up...all my life after that was used trucks, had a family, a new house, kids, and later college for them...

Yes, I love all the newest features that I never knew existed before , especially the safest features...today...
...added a gas tank skid plate ..remove the plastic one, rock sliders(RCI)...have skid plates for trans and transfer case-not install yet....I may wait till after I get a lift...
Just a bit disappointed..as I learn what comes with the Tacoma’s. And what does not...

Already made many small purchases..Meso interior leds, pod lights, and etc..
Would I trade my Tacoma...Nope!....but those aftermarket stuffs..$$$$

Taco is by far the quickest oil change out of my fleet. I have a 62 Austin Healey with a canister - f*k that oil change. I've never been so mad at the car and I restored it from the POS it started out as. My wife has a VW, so that's already a headache. Actually, my motorcycle is pretty easy to change thinking about it now, but that's just not fair to compare 2 to 4 wheel vehicles.

I like my Taco since its built date in 2016 (other than the ECU clear for the transmission and the touch up paint), but I mean that's nothing compared to what I've experienced with my old Fords and Chevys.

I don't have any particular love for struts. They're nice when they are there.

Every time I see a sale posted for the Taco kits, I go out, lift my hood, and just think that I'm really not missing out.

 

So you voted with your wallet right? Screw Toyota and their cheap truck? You'll show them when you buy a high quality Ford product in stead?

Or did you do like the rest of us and pay the toll because Toyota?

I changed the head on my truck and never got annoyed by the prop stick. I agree on not feeling like I'm missing out

 

I drive a F150 daily for work and it is an ecoboost and it is a disappointment. I have 110000 miles on it and it is gutless. No power down low where I need it. When traveling gas well roads which are mainly paths pushed through brush it has no power. On the highway it will fly but the torque is way too high in the rpms. I bought a manual Tacoma for my personal truck and it would drag the Ford through the mountains. The Ford is made to be soft and easy for mall crawlers. Just my thoughts and I’m happy with my Tacoma even with its shortcomings.

 

I miss the ol' spring and bracket that was common in the '70s on big cars.

My '71 Electra 225 had a hood about the size of a WW2 aircraft carrier, held open with a couple of giant springs mounted on huge brackets.

They never failed and were never in the way........

Here is my reason for buying Toyota products.

• I bought my 88 Land Cruiser for $18,250. I drove it 416K miles. I sold it at Auction last month for $28,000
• I bought my FJ Cruiser Trail Team in 2012 for $29,000. I drove it 116K miles. I sold it for $32,000 in October.
• I bought a new Tacoma in 2001 for $21,000. I drove it 215K miles. I sold it for $13,500 in 2019.
• I bought a new 2018 base model Tacoma for $22,400. I drove it 41K miles. I sold it last week for $21,800.

I bought my 2021 DCLB 4x4 for $34,000 this week. Waiting on the truck. Is the F150 better? I am sure it is. Never drove a Ford. My trucks/SUV get used on the farm, going on snow trips, fishing trips. I use them. Then when I sell them, the resale is INSANE.

So for COST of ownership - it is so LOW, that is why I buy Toyota SUV/Trucks. No other reason.

I am sure F150 is nicer, more power, all the gadgets. But I don't see F150 Ecoboost (not Raptor) sold on Bringatrailer, like I am able to sell my other Toyota products.
