    I've thought about just doing the loan a tool from oreillys with their "blind bearing puller", but then I run the risk of it not quite working for this application and at that point the truck is all apart and I don't get to finish the job right away....

    I’m not sure about that one. I heard only one rumble in these topics about a loaner tool working for the pull. I picked up a pilot bearing puller tool that looked like this:

    And can confirm it WOULD NOT work.

    The inner prongs don’t have enough room behind the bearing to get seated. I did see they had another, more slender one and perhaps it would?? Can’t confirm if would or would just have the same issue since its puller also works on an angle.

    Yep, those were the 2 I was looking at and was skeptical of them working. Of course i would own 2 vehicles that require more specialized tools than I've ever needed in my life. 16 Taco and a 12 Subaru STi...........

    I'll probably just end up ordering the special removal tool and then throwing it up here for a discount when I'm done like others have in the past.

    Trust me, I fought it like a kid with colic, lol. I broke down and bought the tool and spent 20min with it and had the bearing it hand. Versus the 2 days I spent trying to JB weld something together. I got pretty close though! LOL If I could weld, I would have maybe had it..

    Can see here how I ended up using parts from all three attempts
    (the ECGS machined piece, my bolt and the loaner bracket for clearing the shaft seal.)

    Btw, the “cable yank” method never worked for me despite the many failed attempts. But I was also failing at hammering it out on the tiny notch too, so I thought I’d give it a shot.

    Ultimately, I came back here and other threads and read that it takes just rotating and hammering on the CV notch to get it out. It’s all about that C-clip position, I think.

    Yes getting the cv out can be a pain. Half the time it pops out easy. Half the time I have to rotate a few times before it pops loose.

    The first few I did without the ecgs install tool. No problem using a socket or general installer.

    One of my customers purchased the install tool, so I bought it from them. I recommend it now because it has a lip on the edge that helps seat the ecgs bushing perfectly flush. So when installing with a socket or other just be careful not to seat the bushing too far inward.

    Random question:

    If, hypothetically, I did a shit job installing the ECGS bushing and buggered the driver side diff oil seal and had to go back in a year later and replace it, how far would I drive the seal...hypothetically? Is flush with the housing far enough?

    Flush is typically the way to go for seals.

    I still havent done mine even though ive had everything to do it for 3 weeks now. Been trying to get my fun car squared away so I dont risk having both vehicles down if some issue were to arise during the install on the Taco

    Cant really tell from the pic, but you could always look at the seal when you go to replqce it. And seat the new seal to the same depth.

    Hey y’all. This is my first post.

    I just bought a used 2017 TRD Sport. 1” leveling kit from what I can tell, haven’t had much time to crawl around on it since it’s so cold out.

    Got the vibes, instantly disappears with 4WD turned on. Going to order the bushing.

    I have a hard time bringing myself to spend the money on a $45 piece of all-thread, a couple nuts, and some steel to remove a $60 bushing, so I’m going to machine my own, just need dimensions off the tool/or a used bearing.

    I cross ref’d the PN for the OEM bearing from ECGS and the bearings are typical KOYO drawn cup needles, 35x40.5x26 (mm), from what I’m seeing.

    If someone can throw a set of calipers on an old bearing and confirm, it’d be much appreciated. :thumbsup:

    Took the measurements for the extraction tool for you. The all thread is 3in x 1/2 in course thread. But from what I've read from a few others, can make that all thread a bit longer for ease of use.
    If I missed a measurement, let me know.

    Those work for me, thanks man. The size of that puller confirms the bearing dimensions I found, at least the ID/OD.

    I already have a piece of 1/2”-13 all thread from another bearing installer I made, so I’m good to go.

    OME 881's with nitro charger shocks and full Dakar leaf pack
    Anybody ever do this on a 1st gen? All I see are posts for 2G and 3G. A tech at a local 4X4 shop says its only an issue for 2G and 3G and they've never dealt with this on 1G. Also said he didn't think the diff design was the same (ie. no needle bearing). However, ECGS sells a bushing for a 7.5" clamshell for 1G Tacos. I am getting all the same symptoms after installing an OME lift (881's up front). Goes away when 4-wheel engaged.
