hi i just bought a 09 tacoma 4x4 dbl cab i want to put a 3" rough country suspenion with mickey thompson classic 2 wheels, can anyone tell me what size wheels in need ( i want to put the dura trac 265/75/16 's ,thanks

Yeah MTRs are more expensive than Duratracs uh?

 

Not when I get all my rebates.

Duratracs were giving 20 rebates, double $40

MTRs had $80 rebate so double is $160.

I got double rebates because I paid with my Goodyear card. Also got 12 months interest free.

anyone else get some small vibes with the duratracs? i had vibes at 40 but got them rebalanced and now i get vibes at other speeds.

 

I've got vibes at 50. Thinkin I need a rebalance too...

 

How do the duratracs ride on the hwy? I know most of you guys have said their is a slight hum.

 

Join treadlightly.org for 25.00 a yr and they give you 100.00 rebate on Duratracs...at least they did a few months ago when I got mine.

I have E load 18" with 45psi and they ride just fine on frwy and not noisy. I do 60 miles of frwy and 1 mile of trail every day............

 

Treadlightly rebate is good until Dec. 31st, at least thats what it was when I bought mine.

 

How do they handle though? Ive read they drive like "a boat"?

I dont think so. I had all of these same reservations when I was looking at buying them. Pull the trigger you wont be disappointed. I commute 250mi a week. Theres a hum, but they are all terrain tires, what do you expect.

 

im in Alaska and have Duratrac's on both my taco & the girls taco. Her's is a first gen, mine is a second gen. we both have them studded and use them as strictly a winter tire. these tires rock in the snow and ice. i can drive my truck like a sports car and the tires just stick, even on icy roads in -5 degree temps. i've got 285/70/17's on mine and 265/75/16's on the girl's. Because of the wider track i can definitely notice that the tires love to find ruts in the road, so i have to be a bit careful, but it is well worth it. the reason they grab the ruts is only because they have great traction. the more stock width on her truck does not have this problem w/ the ruts. Both sizes are great on the highway. i was worried about the "buzz" too because this was my most aggressive tire to date, and am pleasantly surprised w/ how quiet they are. Unless you are in the truck by yourself, with the AC/heater off, and the stereo off, you will never notice it. I have been very impressed with this tire and have not seen a better winter/snow tire out there. After seeing them on my truck I am tempted to get another non-studded set for summer, but will probably end up w/ the BFG MT's just to have a slightly different style. But overall, i have been very impressed w/ the Duratrac's.

PS. on her truck, it is stock height w/ my second gen wheels on it. there is very slight rub at full lock, but nothing worth really noting. so you can fit 265/75/16 stock w/ no problem.
I have King CO's on mine at there lowest setting, and the 285/70/17's definitely rub at full lock, even after a bunch of trimming. All in all, I would definitely do it again, as they look BadAss on the truck. The trimming is all plastic and is well worth it. Don't make a mistake and get tires that are too small. You'll only want bigger ones over time.

This is actually a really common complaint about Duratracs. Just look this tire up on www.tires.com and read the reviews and you'll find many people talking about how they wander. That's actually how I got mine, they were returned with 1000 miles on them for a ride complaint. The guy that had them used his full size truck only for towing a big trailer and didn't like how much they wandered on the highway.

I've put close to another 1000 miles on them since I put them on my truck a little over a week ago and I have no complaints. I took them on a 500 mile road trip the day after I got them, with my bed loaded with about 400lbs and 3 guys in the cab and I was really pleased with them. I think they do well on our lighter trucks.

 

Mine ride great on the hwy. There is definitely a slight hum, but it's not loud at all, just noticable. I was running Cooper Zeon LTZ's before, and I could hear the difference in noise as soon as I started driving after putting on the Duratrac's; my Cooper's were super quiet. Like I said though, the hum isn't loud, I only hear it when I don't have the radio on.

 

i bought these tires earlier this year. i also had too much wander and vibes. i did some more "interneting" and decided to return for michelin ltx at2. a lot of guys dont like these because of soft sidewall, but i have to say. 1000x better tire. imo gas mileage, sway, vib, and actually very qualified for most offroad adventures just my 2c

 

Have had these through summer, drove from NJ to CT. Yea, they hum, but I expected that.. depending on how they wear I don't have any complaints.

 

I currently live in MI and will be moving to CO very soon. I have an 09 dbl cab. I had the tsb leaf spring done about 6 months ago. Ever since then my truck has had alignment issues. Its seems to want to go left all the time. Even if I am on the right side of the crown. After 3 times of going to the dealer it still does this.
On Monday I am supposed to go back and have them look at it again. This time I will go for a ride with them. And show them what I experience.
My plan is once I move to CO I will have the DT put on my truck.
My truck is stock so I will get the 265\75\16 C DT
Question is should I even worry about going back to the dealer in MI. I assume the thing to do after getting the DT put on is to get an alignmemt.
It still pisses me off about the issue with the dealer here. My left tires have warn un evenly..

 

getting slightly bigger tires doesnt mean you need an alignment afterwards.
