Remote start, should be a given.
Google, Siri, Alexis, they do nothing for me.
    Remote Connect?

The features are stuffed in, like dressing to a turkey at Thanksgiving, and I hate stuffing.

As for XMS radio, no on that as well.

Thanks for letting me know, man. Jeez thats a scumbag move. I don't care for apps on my phone but the fact that remote start from your key gets disabled after a year despite it not taking an app is such an anti consumer move.

Toyota should issue a TSB to fix the remote srart issue.

I think the remote start is set-up via a WiFi connection through the (vehicles) cell phone, through the app, given the ability it has to connect and send data. Which will not be happening in my case..

The features the vehicle has, consider the vehicle as being "Smart", like a Smart TV.

Yet "another" form of invasion of privacy.

If mine does that, nobody bothered to tell me. Lol. Of course my connected services dont work because they set my truck up wrong. The SOS button doesnt function so im going to have to make it by the dealer to get it fixed.

I let the Safety Connect go on my Camry, (both Lexus’) and will do so on the Tacoma as well. I will continue the use of the Remote Connect, in the grand scheme of things 80/year is $7/month. Honestly that little money on a monthly basis isn’t even noticeable. I spend more than that having a beer when going out for sushi.

Look, I get your point. To be fair that's not really the main gripe. 80/year for the decade you own it is $800 for a bunch of features that you can either get for free or for a fraction of the price as an option on other cars. My brother paid $150 to have his remote start option put in his dodge, and that's perpetual. on My Girlfriends escape, it was a $200 option but also came with most of the other connect (except the fuel and window part). I would rather pay a couple hundred now than have to pay 1k for the time I have it (which obviously doesn't include the inevitable price increases, drop off of support, and buggy experience common in these lazy apps).

In effect, through your maintenance fee, you are paying to have this feature installed on everyone else car that isn't using it. Instead of it being an option, it is put on everyone's car, then the people who pay the fee pay an inflated rate to compensate for it being installed on every vehicle.

And you can do that. If you don't feel like paying for the service get an N2 design unit and be done. But it will only work with the fob.

If you want to be able to start outside of the fob range, view door lock status, have two way communication, check gps location, etc. you have pay to annually. No way around; using the cell network isn't free.

Yea and that's what I'm going to have to do. Double pay (once to toyota, once for the N2) for a non-OEM, possibly warranty voiding item (in all truth I will probably just bypass whichever i/o is disabling the remote start). I think you are missing my point, my issue is the disabling of the FOB method. I couldn't care less about the other fluff features, my problem is that they disabled the fob remote start in order to strong arm you into buying an app. For people without an electrical background, that's not okay.

I guess the missing part to my point was if you don’t want to pay for it, no one forces you to. I knew this subscription garbage going into 2 Lexus’ and 2 Toyotas.

Which is a perfectly fair argument to make that I agree with completely, I just didn't imagine that my fob remote start would go with it as a result, and I must have missed that somewhere in the fine print.
    Thanks,
    Anubis

The fob part is BS; no argument on that. If you figure out a way to re-able the fob I'm sure you'll make a lot of people happy.

I guess I'm just bitter because it wasn't even an option on my 19. So I had to pay for the module, the cell unit and yearly to use it. I'd have happily just paid the $80 a year and been done with it.

The Lexus was our first vehicle that had these, a 2015 IS 250 FSport. Lexus has a tech guy sit down with you for about 45 minutes and goes through all the car tech during delivery. This was very specifically and clearly discussed. That said I did NOT get this for either Toyota but guess that comes with price difference and experience.

I did the monthly, for now, to make sure I would use it before I did the yearly. The monthly is $8/month, which is one Latte.... since I have two Latte's a day I will just skip one, one day and pay for the ability to start my truck in -10 degree weather while snowing when I wake up after it rained the day prior and has a solid sheet of ice on it.
