The American Tacoma

Hey Guys, I could probably do research on this, but I'm lazy and you are helpful. How can you tell where your truck was made? I know there are many made in Texas, Cali, all over the world. Can you look anywhere in your engine bay? Do you have to search the VIN? Thanks!

 

Google Vin numbers and you should find a sheet for toyota that will tell you where it was made

 

vins that start with a J are from japan. the rest are american. i dont believe they say what state though

Yep, I checked it out. This is a good source. Mine came from Fremont CA.

My 2001 starts with a 5 and I know it was built in Fremont, Ca. Great link above

Mine was made in Cali, it says it on the sticker in the driver side door sill

 

Looking at my VIN now. Based on the wiki link above, position 1 = country of origin. Mine = 5, that = USA as country of origin. There is also 4 & 1 for USA, 3 = Mexico & 2 = Canada. Position 11 = assembly plant. X = San Antonio, Z = Fremont, M = Baja, Mexico.


Wish mine started with JT4RN like my last one did........1982

Inside the drivers door it says where it was made....no need to decipher the VIN

Here are some pictures of the Toyota de Baja California plant where the Tacoma is now made... driving by last September on the Tijuana to Tecate (free) road, Mex. #2... (sorry they are not better.. no place to pull over)

It's either gonna be made in Fremont, Baja, or Texas. It's on the door sticker.
