the default toons pulls the sub signal from the rear (purple) connection. if you are adding a sub I highly recommend you pull the signal from the front speakers instead.

 

That's the plan. Recommendations on removing the extra wiring? Cut & cap?

 

i just cut it off at the connector. cut and cap would work too.

 

Does anyone have the correct settings for the dip switches on the Kicker Key 200w amp?

 

Depends on what you want it to do. They’re all correct

 

I just have upgraded kicker speakers throughout. No sub. Is there a typical use case for the switches?

have you read the manual and looked at the descriptions of what the switches do?

 

5 Star Audio also has a decent video on youtube where they go through the switches. It is for the 180.4, but from what I can tell the switches are the same.

 

Last question...the sub speaker wiring she be installed on the input (headunit) side of the Kicker Keys harness correct?

 

Correct. You don’t want the key’s crossover or EQ or time alignment getting sent to the sub

 

So I got the Keys 180.4 wired in and it works (powers up) buy when I try to tune it with the microphone I keep getting the sad tone with 4 beeps, which indicates Auto EQ Failed. Any suggestions? Picture below is what I have the selection switches set to as well.

 

Make sure the AC/heat is turned off and there is little to no ambient sound (outside of the car). I found that even the slightest disturbance would cause it to fail. I actually did mine with the car in the ACC position to make sure the engine didn’t interfere.

If you can do it inside of a garage that would probably be best.

Also, make sure the microphone is on top of the headrest pointing straight up in the air.

I did perform the test with the vehicle off and accessories position as well. I don't have access to a garage unfortunately but I did do it at night where there was little to no noise. Microphone bulge pointed up towards the roof.

Is the pink noise suppose to go silent while the test noise is going off?

 

I did it in my driveway as well so it is definitely doable.

The pssshhhhhh noise goes off and then you can start hearing like “pinging” from the different speakers. They ping multiple times at different frequencies. Did you have the EQ set to flat (lows, mids, and highs in the middle on the radio)? Did you have the gains on the key amp all the way down (counterclockwise)? And did you have your radio turned up about 3/4 of the way (should be around 40)? Lastly, I would not do it over Bluetooth. Either connect your phone using CarPlay, usb a thumb drive, or plug in with an aux cord.

 

i had the sad tone the first few times too. turn the volume louder.

 

I'll give the volume a shot in the morning. I had it set at about 18-25.

 

Yeah, definitely needs to be louder. My radio went to like 60, so I turned it up to 45 for the test.

@OP, nice work! all of the youtube stuff is paid advertisement from TT and OEM+, I have a 2021 so nothing is applicable so far except your thread.
Not sure why ppl are swapping out rear speakers as the HU is only putting out 1watt of power. I am doing some googling.

So what youre doing, youre tapping into the the stock HU, putting everything into a Keys AMP, and feeding the amplified sound/signal to upgraded speakers? and I have an option of adding a subwoofer or self contained powered subwoofer later on? sign me up!

If you go to kickers website they have test tones. I think I used the 1000hz one (can’t say for sure). You would basically turn your radio up to about 45, play that track, slowly turn up the gain until the light comes on (indicating distortion) and then slightly turn it down.

What I did was disconnect the output from the key (the harness that runs out to your speakers). That way you can play that test tone without sound actually coming out. It will still set the gain correctly even though no sound is coming out.

I was also told to use the WAV format files because they’re not compressed like the MP3 ones are
