If you have to re-tie your shoes several times a day, or if you ever chewed up fingernails from trying to undo that nasty double-knot, then you're doing it wrong.

Most of us were taught this method as kids:

And the problem with that is that it is a weak knot. It wants to naturally work its way loose. Most of us learned a subsequent fix to this terrible knot, the god-awful double-knot. And how many hours have we spent, gnashing our teeth in frustration, trying to undo that iron-clad knot?

"There has to be a better way!"

So let me show you another way that takes 30 seconds to learn.

Let's focus on this step: The rabbit goes around the tree.

    upload_2021-1-15_6-55-49.jpg

This is the knot's weak point. Even from the drawing it looks like it wants to fall apart. So here's what you do, you make that rabbit go around the tree twice.

    upload_2021-1-15_7-11-53.jpg

It reinforces the knot so that it stays put all day, and yet still tugs loose from a simple pull of the ends. Make sense?

    Try it!

    Happy Friday :cookiemonster:

This knot is very good even on those slippery shoelaces that won't stay put. One less thing to worry about when your working in the tops of trees.

Those are definitely my go-to camping shoe. That and a pair of flip-flops for the 3 a.m. stumble towards the nearest tree.

Maybe we should just buy non slippery laces. I never have a problem like this.

I feel ya. An 80 year old engineer taught me this at a job I had a long time ago. I watched him do it a couple of times, but it only clicked after I sat at my desk and had a few trial and error sessions myself.

I'm a double knot shoelacer when I wear shoes with laces. I'll have to give this a try. Thank you.

Amateurs. I use the Berluti knot especially on my dress shoes and work boots. Hold like a double knot and lays flat.
