    Ladies and Gents,

I have included a picture(i hope) so that there is no misunderstading..on my
part...exactly what knob i'm talking about.

I would like to some how cover up the 4WD/2WD selector knob or otherwise keep
from accidently turning it. Its right next to the fan speed control in my truck and i've
accidently turned it twice already. No i don't not look down when
mucking with these 4 knobs....i'm 'usually' looking at the road.
I just grab..what i think is the correct knob and turn it..muscle memory and all that sheit.
In all likely hood i will not retrain my brain not to grab that knob by accident...
so thats out. I don't think putting a special 'ring' around the knob to make
it feel different would be enough either.

    Has anyone else have solution?
(please include links...if you have them).

Idon't care to much about looks at this point..but i dont want to booger
up the dashboard with tape, adhesive etc.

The only thing i can think of is a small plastic cover...of some type
that i can 'attach'...that covers the entire knob.

    Regards,

    Troy

NOTE: I've been driving smaller 2WD toyota access cabs since the late 80's. 1989 pickup,
2005 tacoma...which bit the dust sept 2020...now i'm on the 2020 4WD tacoma access cab
with an ARE MX series cap. Didn't want the 4wd option...but i didn't have a choice if
    i wanted a truck 'now'.

Maybe put a rubber band around it so you get a a tactile response to it before turning it? All l I know is after 4+ years of ownership I still occasionally try pushing it to start.

    Welcome to TW!

Like someone else said, try wrapping it in a rubber band, or stick a piece of Velcro on it. Or give it some time and maybe you’ll learn to avoid it.

I would rather skip the 'learning where my hands go' part and avoid possibly fn up the truck by turning the knob
while doing 70mph. The only thing i can thing of id a 3d printed cover of the correct size/shape so thats its
not in contact with the knob, fits over the knob and is 'attached' do the dashboard around the knob.

I was thinking about 'something' like a PVC pipe end cap.
Could care less about the color...at this point.

The truck won’t engage at 70mph. You also won’t F up the truck by briefly engaging 4wd. In fact, if you haven’t had 4wd in the past, you should engage it semi-regularly anyway.

I've been using the look down for .17 seconds method on every vehicle that I've ever owned and have never once come close to being in or causing an accident because of it. I just rotate my eyeballs downwards to the right and my head doesn't even move at all. Works great. 10/10. Would recommend.

You will get used to where it is after driving the truck for a while. I did it twice. No harm if you just flip it back to 2WD.

Elastic band works, takes slightly longer to learn than the mousetrap edition!
Agreed, It took me a little while to stop pushing that button to start or trying to turn the heat down with it.. You'll get it.

Yup, you know you’re in a relationship or have a daughter when you start carrying Scrunchies, rubber bands (long hair problems) and hair brushes in your cars. Even my work truck has a couple of rubber bands hanging from it’s gear shift so my girl can tie her hair back if she’s out on a Call with me.

Back on-topic I really like the 3D printed ring thing.

am Pro grille w/lights, black tailgate letters, black badging, 265-70-17 Duratrac "c", Rear seat platform,
I like this. My son has a 3d printer and I might have him make one for me. I've turned that darn knob several times by accident.
