Eh, you can just hold the fob up to the start button and start the truck if the battery dies. No issues starting the truck with a dead fob.

My favorite is when you go to drive something with a key after having PTS.

If I wanted nostalgia I'd want the key in the upper left of the dash. LeMan's start style, like my '64 GTO had. (not mine in photo)

I don't even care about the locking steering column. :anonymous:

And my 8 track was a Craig Pioneer. What was yours? :D

I have a RAV Limited, so I have one. It's ok, I know how to use it, but it's something I'd not miss if it wasn't there.

I'm a long term owner on most of my vehicles. These items will eventually have failures, and it won't be cheap to make the truck move again. Not to mention the posts we already see about folks who lose their fob, want to program an additional fob, etc.

I'm in the water a lot, kayaking and wade fishing. I just carry a POK (plain old key) and don't worry about wet. My truck does have a keyless entry, but I don't use that when headed out to the water.

Then again I drive a 5 lug. Weight savings and such. :D

Just me. Ya'll enjoy the tech.

Hes on the next farm as me. DOesn't care about LED. at 81 years old, I don't think he knows what LED is.

For my needs 35K was my budget, SR5 4x4 DCLB is all I could afford. I personally would have gone for sport otherwise. FOr him, budget isn't as much of an issue, but he wants value. I told him, my truck is good enough for me. The truck he is looking at, is equipped as mine. Its a base Sport DCLB 4x4 V6. Price difference he gets the 17 and scoop compared to me, and the remote start.

For those of you with push button start, is the door unlock on the handle, like Lexus cars? Or do you have to use remote to unlock, and then put remote away and push the start button?

If you have a fob you can unlock in range, or you can just touch the handle to lock and unlock.

Tacoma only has it on the drivers door though. Of course there is a mod to add more handles though.

On the handle. As soon as I wrap my fingers around the door handle it unlocks. When I get out I just touch the top of the handle and it locks. I don't see or think about my keys except for the beginning of the day when I put them in my pocket, and the end of the day when I hang them back on the hook.

Why not get rid of the button altogether???

Once the vehicle detects the key, simply press the brake pedal, or the brake and gads pedal. Then the vehicle starts. Put the vehicle in park, press the designated pedal/s and the vehicle shuts off.

Then brag my car dosen't even need a button to start.

And I'll tell you from experience those PTS fabs are very durable. Both of mine have been through the wash several times in the pocket of my jeans, dropped on hard surfaces multiple times left out in the hot summer Texas sun and they just keep on ticking. I've got mine in and aftermarket case which reduces the size and weight and it goes in my pocket with nothing attached making for no bulk in the pocket.

I'd look for biometrics at some point.

2020 and up have it on the passenger door as well. My wife was pretty excited about that. Apparently, I was slow with unlocking her door. :notsure:

You'll never get locked out with push button start. They all have physical keys just for that purpose. If your fob dies, you just hold it up to the button and push and it'll still start (not to mention you should have a spare fob as well). You can always add remote start without a subscription too (I did).

The only thing I like the physical key version for is that remote start doesn't shut the truck off when you open the door. Otherwise, it is very nice to never have to remove my keys from my pocket.

Back in 2016 the Dealer gave me a brand new Tacoma for a few days for an extended test drive. That drivers door handle gave me fits as it didn't want to sense my hand, was quite frustrating.

It does not need to be that complicated and involved. Things are definitely leading to biometrics, but it is so unnecessary.
