I've been eyeballing one of these for a bit now, I like the durability factor and design, however living in Alaska gives me 2 problems - 1. Freezing locks & B. Shipping. So I see the potential for a cover over the locks as a way to prevent freezing, hoping that'll be resolved soon. Once that is resolved I'll have to work out the shipping but I do intend on buying one of these bad boys! Thanks for all the input from current users!

I don’t yet have my cap, but to be fair - I’ve had this issue with the bed and the cab, so this issue wouldn’t be exclusive to the RSI. When I’ve had this issue it’s from snow piling up on the factory tri-fold and falling / melting between the cab and bad then refreezing.

I agree with this as well, I have to make sure to remove all snow from the cover before driving because it lodges itself against the rear window and creates a wedge.

    ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

RSI will be releasing a SmartCap for the 2005-2015 Tacoma this summer!

In the mean time, RSI is looking for your help. The RSI engineering team in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is trying to locate a Gen 2 Tacoma with a 5' bed to laser scan the truck. If you happen to own or know somebody who owns a Gen 2 Tacoma short-bed in or around that area who would be willing to let them use it, please email Info.NA@rsismartcap.com. The RSI team will need the truck for a day, and we will pay the truck owner $500 for their time.

I was wondering if there really was that much of a difference between 2nd and 3rd beds. Must be enough to release a new product. Hopefully this comes out ASAP.

RSI is aiming for 3rd quarter of this year. Hopefully they found someone to get their truck in for that digital scan!

Anyone with this cap able to fit Mtn bikes in the back of a 5ft bed? I suppose over the tailgate would be a big headache. Perhaps with the front tire off? If anyone does this can you stuff 3 mtn bikes in the back? I love this Cap but figured I'd just whip one on and off when I bike or need the cap. But it's quite heavy and would be a hassle to swap on and off frequently.

Someone posted pictures I believe of their bike in the back with front tire removed. You should definitely be able to fit a couple bikes without issue. There's another post that someone stated the rear window was rather easy to remove so having a few bikes over the tailgate could also be a solution.

The SmartCap EVOa Adventure has been built for extreme on-road and off-road use. From its 5-piece modular stainless steel design to the double-walled stainless steel side Gullwing doors (instead of windows on the Evo Sport model) with interior MOLLE Panels for mounting your gear, this thing will take all the adventure you can throw at—and then some.

The RSI Smart Canopy EVOa Adventure is the perfect solution for anyone looking for a Truck Cap / Camper Shell for their Toyota Tacoma Truck with a 5' or 6' Bed. The SmartCap EVOa Adventure is Forged from steel (not fiberglass), it could be said the SmartCap EVO is built like a truck, not a boat. From off-roading to the job site, it’ll withstand the daily abuse you give it, while also being able to hold up to 330 lbs. when moving or 770 lbs. when parked.

I posted some photos in post #197 back in the other thread (just RSI smart cap) of my mountain bike in the cap- it's completely possible but I was happy when I finally got my 1Up rack and didn't have to lift the bikes in and out with the cap on. I have some deep scratches in the paint of my tailgate from doing so. You can see them to the left of the backup camera. Believe it or not that happened with my Dakine tailgate pad on, probably because of how awkward lifting the bikes in can be with the cap.

Finally got around to pulling the vinyl off the back panel and have some fun stuff coming from @Afilao to replace it.

This was posted in the other thread too but probably belongs more in this one (being "photo heavy"). Playing around with @Afilao as to how the badging could (dare I say should?) have looked coming straight from RSi. Matte black RSI decals he made me for the rear and side panels. Fun stuff but cap looks good cleanly debadged too, not sure I'll throw that side panel decal on as I'm kinda tired of GooGone fumes, and have something else in the works for the side anyway.

sounds like you already got a hitch rack, but an easy way to load bikes with a cap is to open/remove the cap window, put the tailgate pad on, drop the tailgate, get the bikes sort of in the right position, then lift the tailgate while the bikes move back into their correct spot, then use the strap to secure it in place if you want. i do this with my bed rack on all the time. makes things much much easier

I did learn to do this... eventually... the hard way. The 1up rack is a dream though.

Some of you have reached out to me for some stickers and I’ve decided to make a small run of them. I want to see who else is interested. I’m going to make a pack of 6 stickers. 3 large and 3 small that way each person can decide what they like and have some room for error. I’m thinking $20 bucks shipped conus. If you live somewhere else let me know and we can probably work something out. They will be matte black vinyl. I’m not a company just an artist that have the means to make these at home and I honestly love how this shell looks.

    upload_2021-1-28_10-8-22.jpg

I’ll start making a list here of people interested and once I get your payment I’ll get your shipping info and mail them. I can take venmo or paypal. If you don’t want to do friends and family on paypal I take no offense but just make sure you include 2.9% to cover the fees.

    :fistbump:
