I'm still editing this. I don't want to lose anything... I'm doing it on my phone! Lol

Oh man, talk about an open ended question! Hahaha. This may be a long read but I'll try to keep it short.

I'm just going to start by saying sound is very subjective. What sounds good to one may not sound good to others. Ex. people were just taking about Sonos, some loved the way they sound and others did not.

1st off I'll start off by saying I personally believe that just like vehicles different speaker systems do different things. If you want a portable personal speaker than you should get one. Now surround sound systems are VERY different than that! So for the 2 things you asked about the first one is a little bit easier.

If you want something real portable than a nice rechargeable Bluetooth speaker would do it for you. I personally like the UE's (Ultimate Ear's) and some JBL's but there are some others that sound good

I'll just post manufactures pages. You can search for yourself for deals.

    UE's - https://www.ultimateears.com/en-us/wireless-speakers/megaboom-3.html

    JBL's - https://www.jbl.com/bluetooth-speakers/JBL+CHARGE+4.html?dwvar_JBL=

Ok now for a surround system.

I'll start by saying that a soundbar has all the sound coming out front in front of you. There is nothing behind you actually "surrounding" you. Lol. Now i know they do things such as delay/echo to make surround sound effects but let's be honest in order to have sound come from behind you you really need to have a speaker there. Some people really like them but i prefer a real surround sound system.

Now of course if you really want to get into it the sky is the absolute limit when it comes to this stuff! I'm a big fan of the trickle down theory.
My personal system is all JBL speakers (main, center and surround) with a Paradigm subwoofer. An Onkyo receiver, Sony blue-ray player and a Marantz CD player.

I am not a fan of everything in a box systems as they are built more for hitting a price point than they are for performance.

So if we keep on those same themes here are some things that I'd recommend (for the price).

For a receiver right now Yamaha seems to be the brand to go for. A good basic one but with Bluetooth so you can stream your music to and from it too. Of course the more you go up the more features, power and flexibility you will get.

    Yamaha receiver - https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-v485_u/index.html

For speakers (man there are so many!) We'll keep to what I was saying before - professional brands. A lot of movie theaters usually use one of 2 different brands JBL or Klipsch. So I'll focus on them and again using the trickle down theory.

    JBL speakers - https://www.jbl.com/home-audio/STUDIO+530.html?dwvar_STUDIO

Of course going bigger/better gets you more sound definition and volume. Here's a great almost 50% of deal

For center and rear speakers you can use all the same speakers or using a brand & model match.

    Klipsch - https://www.klipsch.com/products/r-51m-bookshelf-speaker

Same thing for center and surround speakers.

For subs I'd definitely say go Klipsch for the money.

    Subwoofer - https://www.klipsch.com/products/r-12sw

This last one is a great deal

I hope this helps. These are just some ideas of a couple of things that you could do for a nice sounding system. And believe me these are like mine budget minded.

Nicely optioned! I'd look at it for sure.

Only thing it's missing that you'd usually see at that level is the locker, but honestly I've had that on both my Fords and never use it. I just turn it on and off once in a while to move the actuator.

You'll like the 360 cameras that comes with.

I never used the locker in my Taco and I don't think I have one in the Sierra. I sure won't miss that.

GM trucks often have the G80 auto locker. When there's a variance between the rear wheel speeds it'll lock up then unlock when you release the accelerator. They don't offer an electronic locker like Ford and Toyota.

The lack of that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, either.

I'll be curious to hear what you think of the 360 cameras if you look at it. I think it's a very cool feature. If you press the camera button repeatedly, it'll cycle through some wide angle views too that can be useful. Mine had a couple bad cameras that the dealer finally took care of, but I think that was just a 2020 thing because there was a bad batch. I don't think the recall impacts 2018s.

thanks! We have a portable speaker, I guess I meant I’d like to have it for casual music listening as well as tv.

I’m more interested in the surround sound stuff.
    Thanks!!

I haven't researched in a long time, so I don't really know what the best bets at that price point are. To buy the newer versions of my speakers and sub today would probably run around $1250. So, it's certainly not high end stuff, but not Walmart spec either.

I drilled small holes in the living room floor so I could run the speaker wire through the basement. I even did this for my fronts because they're spaced out enough from the TV where I didn't want to see the wires.

    No rush! appreciate any guidance!

Yeah, I would guess something around 1500 or less would be a realistic budget. I JUST finished our basement so it wouldn't even be easy to do that, I'll have to think about how to do rears. Thats why the sonos 1's were good, they'd complete the circle...but they won't connect so here I am!

Yeah, my basement is completely unfinished so it was a super easy task.

I think you can put together a decent setup for that price. I'm sure @mach1man001 will point you in the right direction.

It really is insane how much you can spend on speakers. Bang and Olufsen makes a single speaker that costs $85,000 and I'm sure there are more expensive ones out there.

Yeah maybe after I win the lottery

even then I dunno if I could justify that. I’d have to keep it hidden so no one knew I was such a huge dink:anonymous:

That one's nice! I'd definitely go for the 6.5' box. I was wondering if you found a unicorn with the heavy payload package but doesn't look like it has that option. Sharp looking truck though, and the crew cab will be easier to get rid of later on. Brake controller is already in that one also.

That could perhaps be a good motivator..hahha you have seen my tattoos I believe?

Same. I have a 1995-6 year Pioneer 200 watt receiver that runs 2 or 4 speakers. Plenty enough for me since even if I use it to watch TV I rarely get the chance to really blast it (IE home alone). Even a 5 speaker surround system would be a bitch in my living room because of how the house was built and it's not a cost I can justify.

I have a set of Technics 3 way speakers with 10" woofers, think I paid $40 used in college. Still blast.

Haha when I bought my new TV this summer I had to get a RCA to digital optical converter..that's how old my receiver is

I still have and use a set of Ohm speakers that I bought in 1979. Matter of fact it’s powered by a Sanyo receiver that I bought in 1977...

$85K each? That's nothing! These Focal's are $130K each and weigh about a ton.
