That is were I bought my truck, I would never go back. If I had known I would have warned you off. The cookies in the waiting area were the best part of the experience.

You are absolutely correct about that. I wanted a basic SR V6 4x4 DCSB and no SoCal dealers have them. Only sport or off-road down here.

I got my 2020 last March at Kendall in Eugene. Best price I could find, salesman was Will Baas, did a good job. I had corresponded with him a year or so earlier when I got my 2019, so if he is still there he would be your best bet at Kendall imho.

    OP,

I am so sorry that this happened to you. At this point, I know it sucks. But the key is to figure out what to do about it. There is a lot of good insight and advice here, for sure. I can only think what I would do if I was in your position. The options are not great, of course, but I would run a three pronged approach, in parallel:

    1) Hammer the current dealer.

The dealer was either evil (more likely) or disorganized (somewhat plausible). I would go in person and ask to speak to the manager of the dealer. I would say look ... you guys screwed me over ... I have a sales agreement. You took my money. You screwed me royally. I can post on Yelp, send a note to Toyota corporate (those complaints do matter), and post on your Facebook. I can also call the BBB and file a complaint. You name it. But I don't have time for that -- even though I would enjoy it -- and neither do you. I am asking you to put together a plan to get me the truck I want. Or work a deal with me so that I get something close and if you put a too good to pass up offer on the table I am willing to be flexible. At the very least, you can get me better pricing, better financing or some accessories that make putting up with this bullshit worth it for me. You have to do this in person. You have to give them a chance to make it right -- and see if it works out in your favor. That is really all that you can do at this point. Worth a shot.

    2) Look at other dealers.

As this has been discussed, it might be tricky. Look at other dealers and see if you can get something that meets your needs. I know that sucks because it is like starting over but be prepared to drive a little to get the truck you want. If you post your zip code, good folks here might be able to help you find the truck you need. Honestly, I would start every conversation with "I just got screwed by a dealer and am now looking to get a truck ... you want to make a sale ...?" You might find that one person who really does want to do a good and quick deal.

    3) Wild card. Contact the auto group that actually owns the dealership. It is not Warren Buffet personally ... of course ... but it does look like this dealer is owned by:

    https://www.berkshirehathawayautomotive.com

About: "In early 2015, Berkshire Hathaway concluded the acquisition of Van Tuyl Group, the nation's largest privately owned automotive dealership group, consisting of 81 dealerships (now 85) and 100 automotive franchises in 10 states. Included in the transaction were an extensive array of services and products, including: web services; digital marketing; in-store process consultation; MPP Company, which provides a comprehensive selection of extended warranty services and other automotive protection plans; as well as auto auctions and collision center resources."

Looks like their headquarters are in Texas:
    https://www.berkshirehathawayautomotive.com/offices/index.htm

I would call them, tell them what happened and tell them you will be reporting them to the BBB and ask if they can help you.

Best to proceed on all fronts. Yes, it sucks. But you are trying to get the truck you need so it might be worth it.

Give em time I’m sure they’ll make it right. You might even walk out with a better deal than originally agreed on. If they can’t find the exact match of what you originally wanted you may find something you like even more.

This scenario reminds me of when I purchased my jet skis last year. I didn’t want to buy new because I didn’t like the idea of paying so much for something I’d only use 3 months out of the year. So I began to look around and found an acceptable deal on Facebook marketplace. The skis were older but well kept and owner wanted just a tiny bit above what they booked for which wasn’t a problem because due to covid and brp shutting down, finding jet skis new or used was extremely difficult and prices reflected that.

I began conversing with the seller and ended up agreeing to purchase. Went to bank and was on phone back and forth getting the relevant information for the loan. Loan was easily approved and I got the money and set a time to meet on water to do a test before purchase. Text the seller at lunch and said I’d be there at 5pm and they said ‘Great! See you at 5’. Left work and text them saying I was on my way and got a text back saying sorry we sold the jet skis.

In the end I took a small hit on my credit, cost me $50 to return the loan, and went to dealer to buy two brand new 2020 seadoos. Would much rather deal with a dealer any day than petty individuals who will screw you over in a heart beat. They don’t care if they have a bad name and you never buy from them. Dealers do.

Side note: BBB is basically a sham of an organization and totally toothless...BUT the dealer prob dont know that either.

Totally agree! But it is about making as much noise as possible ... on Yelp, Facebook, Dealer Rater, you name it.

Funny how many businesses just don't seem to care about customers today ...
