Do you use ripping chains or just regular chains. I milled a large red oak that I had taken down. My chainsaw mill is the smaller one that only clamps onto the bar in one spot. Bought it to use on my ms250, and milled quite a bit before finding a good deal on a larger saw. Even with a ripping chain and the larger saw, it was a very slow process. I’d like to find a softer wood and see if it makes much difference.

    None....yet.
It did. But then I decided, "**** it"...I put that cut in the rest of the pieces and inlaid some walnut. Should actually wind up adding a nice detail i just hadn't planned.

The trials of wood working...at least with metal you can't weld on a piece...wood is not weld friendly unfortunately;)

I use chisel bit round file full comp for my milling. Its a standard grind. Meaning I don't grind or file it to a 10 degree angle every other tooth like a rip chain. I just keep it. At 32and down 10. So across is 32 degree and fille with the tooth my hand or handle of the file is down 10 degrees basicly pushing the file up ten degrees and across the tooth at 32 degrees.

I fall timber for a living on the west coast. Northern California to be exact. We cut big stuff and I use the same chain and gring angles for all of it.

Nice. I've got two boards in the clamps right now actually. They're my first ones. I'm trying to decide if I should grab the router for a 1/4 or 1/8" round over to break the edges or just break the edges with the block plane. What do you guys prefer?

Sugar maple is just a generic term that is harder than traditional maple. It's really good for floors and cutting boards.

I love working with cherry too but it's kind of pricey in my area. Actually, everything is kind of pricey right now.
