Snugtop Sport Hi Rise camper shell, total Chaos bed stiffeners.
Welcome to the club I got mine in July of 2020 shopped hard for 3 months. Sat at multiple dealerships walked out of a few because I couldn't get them to bend on price whatsoever. I paid out the door tax, title and licensing $42,137 I can see prices are just going up. The camper shell is brand new and color matched and that set me back $3,250 I can't believe I'm already 45,000 into this truck and I still want and need or crave $10,000 more of additional add-ons.

First time buying a new vehicle. It feels like a good deal but I could be letting my excitement for this truck get in the way and I want to make sure I'm not being ripped off.

2021 TRD Off Road DCSB AT
    -LED Headlights
    -Floor Liners/Door Sill Protectors
    -Mudguards
    -Door Edge Guards
    MSRP: $39,457

They're offering: $36,707 (AFTER Rebates, BEFORE Taxes)
OTD will be $38,298 with VA 4.15% sales tax and a $1,000 trade in.

Everyone always says upwards of 6% off MSRP is a decent deal. My question is, is that supposed to be before or after rebates? Like, am I supposed to shoot for 6%+ off MSRP and THEN subtract rebates for a good deal? The $36,707 offer is 7% off the sticker price but it includes rebates. Thanks guys!

I've been lurking this thread for way to long. From what I've been seeing that's a solid deal. I'd buy in a heartbeat if that truck came across me in Army Green

Good question. It would be preferable to only list prices before rebates. As that is what it is actually being discounted by the dealer and would be more reflective of what they are willing to do. But being that the vast majority of the reported deals are not broken down into the various components of the deal and that dealers purposely make all these facets cloudy, I would guess that rebates are included in most of the deals reported. So using the data we have, I guess it would be best to include the rebate in your discount off MSRP.

So yeah, you’re getting into the good deal range. also, take into consideration that the deals we see here are probably better than the majority of other people who are not informed like people are that are reading this thread.
But one thing that is questionable is $1000 for the trade-in. What’s the Kelley blue book on your trade-in vehicle? Everyone assumes that when you’re trading a vehicle to a dealer then you’re going to get hosed every time. Not necessarily the case. I actually got around $2500 over Kelley blue book trade-in value when I traded mine in while still getting 9% off MSRP.(Pre-Covid) Use this to get a more accurate idea of all the ins and outs of your deal.
Accurate Gauge of Tacoma Price Info:
    1. Year, trim, color, transmission, bed
    2. MSRP(before dealer add ons)
    3. Options
    4. Cost of dealer add ons- (tint, floor mats, nitrogen, etc)
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including incentive/rebate
    6. Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP)
    7. Incentive (rebate/customer cash)
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD)
    9. Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim)
    10. Kelley blue book trade-in value
    11. Trade allowance(amount given for trade)
    12. Date purchased
    13. State purchased

Speaking of the uninformed consumer, for example, last weekend my dad just told me that he bought a new Chevy Traverse. He sold his Tahoe for $10,000 cash private party. Kelley blue book trade-in was 11,300. It was in perfect shape. Private party was 14,000. Plus with the trade he would’ve saved $800 in taxes in NY. Only went to the one dealership where he supposedly knew a guy(hardly, from years ago). The same guy tried to rip off my brother on a warranty previously. My dad told the guy that he was leaving for Florida in three days and wanted to be in a new vehicle. The guy said there was no way the he could come down on the price. He said all the other dealers that were listing for less were lying. My dad’s response was that you’re always going to get taken to the cleaners on trade ins. I said yeah the 11,300 is the getting to taken to the cleaners price. At this point it was a done deal and he obviously didn’t want to hear anymore about it. I was so disgusted. I don’t even want to know what he could’ve gotten off on the vehicle which I believe makes like Chevy give bigger discounts than Toyota.

It's definitely on the lower end but it's within the arc on KBB. They value it between $800 and $1500. Cosmetically the car is fine and has no driveability issues but it has a few mechanical defects (check engine light, AC motor works intermittently, sunroof no longer opens, etc.). I've been to three dealerships and the highest I've gotten on a trade in offer is $1100. With that said the dealer who offered $1100 was offering much less in discounts on the Tacoma itself and overall I would have paid a good chunk more OTD (over $1,000).

True there was about 3.3k in accessories but he got 5.4k off and even so dealers wouldn't budge on discounts even though all the PROs were coming with those options installed. Also some of those options are not as insanely marked up as say the "blackout package" which is like 5x the cost.... the rails would cost $650 for a decent set anyways... maybe $400 on discount butthe dealership does all the installation. I still think it was a darn good deal because PROs are hard to negotiate anything off of regardless of option load out.

Never said it wasn’t a good deal and very aware of pricing my friend, hardly new to this, just pointing out some of where the padding is in that deal.

Word. You’re right about the padding and good to highlight that. If he got 5.4k off base pro then my mind would be truly blown.

Probably super rare to find a base pro with no add-ons at all. But even if you value all the accessories at $0 knocking $3500 of the discount then it’s still the best deal on a pro since Covid by a significant margin. I believe the best discount has been $900. Like he said, it was a mistake because there was another one there that had no discount at all. Someone’s probably getting their ass chewed out about that one.

We went back and looked at other trucks on their site after the fact. The same discounts were applied to the TRD OR's, but not the Pro's. I think someone put the single Pro in the clearance rack by accident. Simple as that. I was the lucky one to see it first and lock it in before anyone else noticed. I shopped for 3 weeks and could not find a deal close to it. I have no expectation that I could secure the same pricing a second time.
