then you're on the right track

curious, what year truck do you have?

speaking as a 2016 owner, it made a night and day difference.

Doesnt hurt to have your dealer (or do it yourself) update to the latest OEM ECU updates and see how it drives first.

    I have a 2019 TRD OR.

Im still largely confused on what a TSB is , from what I read it appears to be some kind of software build identifier particular to each truck ?

    Interesting if that’s the case.

im not really after power, just a good balance and really the increased MPG gets me more excited.

    TSB = technical service bulletin.

arm yourself with knowledge on the topic first before calling your dealer.
people have had variable success having their ECU updated by the dealer depending on how they approached it

my dealer had no issue updating and didn't need convincing, they just did it, but YMMV

alternatively, look up how to do it yourself. lots of good resources on TW

    Really ?

so these are essentially a list of known or emerging issues and the dealer may be reluctant to update the ECU depending on the issue may or may not be having ?

how can you tell if the ecu was updated, is it a time consuming affair that’s why dealers are reluctant to update ?

definitely not very assuring on Toyota’s part.

The TSBs are listed for specific issues an owner might be experiencing

    TSB does not = recall

Some dealers are reluctant to perform TSB if the owner is not experiencing the conditions outlined by the TSB

Its not a Toyota thing - it's a specific dealer thing. Dont ask me why, have no idea. My dealer had no problem, no questions asked.

edit - found a relevant thread for you (i think), and attached the TSB
TSB-0092-20 is awesome! | Tacoma World

You're always going to want to apply the latest ECU update before OVTUNED anyway.

You are the in the exact same boat I was. Your words are spot on consistent to how I felt about my 2019 and why I began researching ovtune. The tune has never, and will never make my truck a powerhouse. However, despite the growing pains I experienced after purchasing the tune like minor glitches in the coding/programming that just didn’t settle well with the truck, I can say now that 2.0 final is spot on exactly what you’re looking for. The shift logic is drastically improved and the expected throttle response that should come factory was enhanced via ovtune.

If you’re not an ovtune owner, I highly suggest, as a fellow 2019 owner, update to 04b33. You don’t have to buy anything to do this as you can find someone who has the cable and a laptop and see if they’ll do it or have a dealer do it. It’ll take an individual less than 10 minutes total time to do it and most would do it for a very small fee. After updating if your overall expectations aren’t met, then spend money getting the truck tuned. You’ll find that your truck drives to your expectations sooooooo much more.

Thank you everyone for this information.
a lot to read up on. Don’t get me wrong, I love my truck but it does have the excitement of a 90’s Lincoln or cadillac.

I just a better response from the vehicle , definitely gonna consider OVTune.

Yes I have also experienced this when mashing the throttle.
I thought this tune was octane learning? Anyone else?
And now what? It also does it on the Reg Tune.

I'm also getting the "completed unsuccessfully" when I try to flash. I'm using the latest FLash tool V1.3.2, turned ignition on, using USB 2.0 port, ECU name matches that of the file, and I have the OV tune port. No idea why I keep getting this message within 3-10 seconds of trying to flash. I feel I've troubleshooted everything I've read here. Help!

I've tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop. It passes the security checks and identification. Both the reading and the Flashing are unsuccessful. Do I need to "clear DTC, AT or LV" before I flash?

@OVTune I've been checking my email for a few days now. I still have yet to receive my master key for my order. I placed the order on 01/03/2021. Is there a specific sender email address I should be checking for? I have looked in my spam every email since the day I ordered and nothing yet. Also on that note, I still don't have a download link for my 3.5 Tune Pack.

    Thank you.
