This isn’t accurate. As I understand it, numerous credit inquiries in a specific time period for the same purchase doesn’t impact the credit score for each inquiry. For example if there are 5 inquiries at car dealerships in a two week period your credit won’t suffer.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Exactly. Until your name appears on a finance form, title... etc. you don't own it. Deposit means you have reserved it, you don't own it. Was this a shady as frig practice; absolutely. I'd consider not giving them business or definitely not going easy on negotiating the new ride.

    1. get deposit back
    2. leave a little bad feedback online somewhere
    3. locate truck elsewhere
    4. fly, buy, drive home

Don't expend too much mental energy on the losers that screwed you. Just get your deposit back and move on.

I second that. Get a refund and take your business elsewhere. Seems as though they didn't value you as a customer (or your money) that they sold it out from under you. They don't deserve your business at this point!

I would just get the one similar in WA for the same price and be done with it.

Don't wait too long on the Seattle truck. I'm in Washington State and I buy at Toyota of Puyallup and the Tacomas there literally fly off the lot. Buy the truck in Seattle and worry about the deposit thing on the other one later. $2500 isn't a big deal and you are guaranteed to get it back.

Totally shady. When this shit happened to me it was late on a Saturday evening. The next day the assistant sales manager was going to Orlando for 10 days on vacation. I waited 5 days to get my truck that was purchased. The dealership offered other trucks, but without the options I wanted (dual alternator, leather, no Denali package, etc).

I found enjoyment tearing up the 35000.00 check in front of the sales manager with the assistant sales manager on the phone. He was fired on the spot. The next week I was contacted daily. I just purchased a better optioned truck for cheaper from a competitor.

Normally I would “go there” on an open forum, but being a female doesn’t help with sales staff thinking you’re an easy target.

Toyota made the mistake twice with my wife and they regretted it both times.

One of my lifelong friends is a finance manager for Subaru and he worked at other dealerships that targeted women. Even he had to change the sales/service departments culture. Everyone should go armed to the teeth before stepping one foot into a dealership.

Best experiences I’ve had were internet sales. I first checked Tru-Car and consumer reports with the vin number of the vehicle I’m looking at (worth the cost to have these services). Google the vin number as well. This gives you the exact location of the car (many people don’t know that). Call the internet department and give an offer.

As an aside, that dude (Tom M.) has some great columns on car buying. He also has a car buying service where for a small fee you show up, sign a document and drive away with the car that he negotiated for you. I seriously want to try that service on my next car. Not my next truck and I will likely have the new 2020 TRD OR for quite a long time.

OP, could also try the Costco plan. I've heard mostly good things about that ... but have never tried it before. Might be worth a shot.

One of my buddies on a different forum just purchased a 2020 Chevy 2500 gasser nicely loaded for 50k through Costco. I was impressed. Guess they have contracts through GM for pricing.
